I have a 95 190 with a 200 no jack plate top speed 68mph. I have been thinking about a plate myself so now I'm not sure it's worth messing with judging by the replies here so my question is what was your top end before versus after a plate?

Your not going to gain much if anything, except better hole shot and ride, If it was mine i do a 6 inch and be happy.

I would assume that hes reading that speed on a analog gauge. But i have seen several over the years that would fly. My first one back in early 80 would run 64. But i have never had a very fast boat. Just a great ride.

Typically a Champion does not require a jack plate, that was one of the selling features. I run a 184 with 150 hp in 3rd hole and can hit little over 60. 15 inch prop 25 pitch 5400 rpms

Actually no boat needs a Jack plate. Or they would come form the factory with them. But to enhance the performance a jack plate is added. I have owned to many champion over the years to keep track of. I just have found that i get a better ride and hole shot with one. I have gone to big on the jack plates before, I put a twelve on one of my 202 and scared the beejeezes out of me. I thought i was going to sink it. Didn't take me long to go back to a smaller plate.. For me they have always preformed better with one.

For anyone who may wish for more setback, or want a way to experiment: One option is a fixed extension spacer with your existing jackplate, whether fixed or hydraulic. I have one manufactured by Detwiler that I think is 3 inches or so. It will be going up on the classified board soon.

Good info, I went with the 6 inch atlas plate. With a 200 optic I was gettin 64-65 normally with my 202. I prob could of moved it up a quarter or so and got 67 tops. But I appreciate all the help! That's why I love this forum

I hit 71 on 4 passes today with 1/2 tank of fuel and 2 people. My prop is a little rough and the prop shaft is tweaked a little. I've hit 75 when everything was perfect.
