I am planning to get a G3 deluxe 1756. What is your opinion on this boat? The boat is a tunnel drive with a prop 90hp. I would appreciate all the bad along with all the good stuff.
thanks

The CC would be preferred over the SC. More room to move around and fish, and better visibility while driving the boat. It should run shallow with the tunnel hull. What made you pick this model out of all of the boats out there?

I chose this boat because I will sometimes be in the river and also at the bay and running in skinny water. I am getting older so I now will mostly be using good boat ramps instead of sliding the boat down the banks. This will allow me to use a larger boat with more room for a few more passengers. A couple of my friends have a g3 boat and they are pleased..however this is a deluxe with a little less room. I wonder how well you can raise the bow in choppy waters with the sponsons on the back. I am also concerned how well you can turn the boat with tunnel drive as I have never driven one.
I have been looking at a used g3 ...a 2011 ...with one owner that bought the boat in 2012.
I catfish mostly...really like to fish for all kinds of fish...I grew up near the bay, so I saltwater fished when I was younger and later got hooked on catfishing ....which I still prefer.

thanks for the input

If I had that option with that narrow of a boat I'd get a tiller 90 with tilt and trim, jack plate, and pods on the back and have more room to boot. Run skinnier and be a creek/river boat deluxe. I'd also step up to an 18 or 20 and go wider, like 70" if you are going to fish bigger lakes.
No one can pick out your boat for you because only you know how and where you are going to use it. Not many down size on HP or length/width when going to a second or third boat. Very few buy the correct boat the first time.

I would advise against any modified v aluminium boat. If you want an aluminum boat I would get a deep v. They do not draw much water and they run much smoother.

i had the opportunity to fish out of one last summer it was not a bad riding boat it was a bit narrow to what i am use to are you buying new or used. if your buying used i would look in to a little wider boat and a fiberglass boat its aluminum and was a bit hard on my back was paying for it the nexed day but i have back issues the glass boat will run a bit smoother and wider will give you more room trust me i had bass boats before up till 2 yrs ago then I fished out of a CC and enjoyed it so much i sold my Skeeter and bought a eat up CC if the G3 is the type of boat you want it was a decent boat to fish out of But i think you might be happier with a wider boat I know i am so much happier with the wider boat I have a jack plate and hardly never use it most of the time i forget i even have it i use to think i wanted one on my boats not now i have one and it came with the boat i dont think its a big deal and i fish shallow most of the year

+1

That model G3 might be a rough ride in choppy water. I'd want a wider heavier boat with a deep v hull. Just my opinion though.

I will third that advise.

My cousin bought a 20' CC Lowe Mod V after I advised him of the rough ride and the fact that it will blow around a lot when anchored. I fished with him a few times and at 18-22 mph in some chop, I thought my spine was coming out the top of my skull. when we fish, he always wants to take his rig. His motor was down, and he came to Twok with me and my glass boat with a deep V entry. The wind got up to 24 that afternoon and he was blown away by the fact we could still run 30+ with a nice ride and stay dry. He hates his boat now.

I would seriously look at a used glass boat with a decent V hull rather than a new aluminum mod v if it were all about the budget. If your a calm weather only fisherman, anything will suffice.

I agree. I had a modv aluminum and now have a deep V. I won't go back. Mine is a G3 angler V172. Ride is better and safer. Boat is wider and fishes easier.

Seems like the perfect boat always belongs to the other guy and costs about $80,000.00

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

"I chose this boat because I will sometimes be in the river and also at the bay and running in skinny water."

From my limited experience this is the boat to do just that. I've been using modified vee's and tunnel hull aluminum boats for nearly 20 years. Rivers around here, you better have an aluminum boat because you will be hitting things every trip. Just as you will running on plane in 8" or less of water.

Shallow is 6-8 inches. I run on plane in 8" of water a lot and get up in a foot or less. All boats have there place and they are a trade off, no one boat is prefect for everything. A deep vee is the wrong boat to run shallow, yes they do ride good and take the ruf water great.

I have a Lowe FM165 and it is very smooth riding boat that will fit in most standard size garages. I have had a mod-v aluminium bass boat and it did not do well in North Texas Lakes. The spring winds and the summer boat traffic were simply too much for it.

I can advise that Lowe stands firmly behind their warranty. I have heard some other manufacturers have not been so vigilant in this regard. I will not mention any names on this forum or in person.

Shallow is relative. I fish in two feet of water on a regular basis without problem. If you want to run on plane in 8" of water on the coast than you need a tunnel hull and a hydraulic jackplate. You will also need a galvanized trailer if you are going to be putting your boat in saltwater.
