Thanks da_karr. We decided to go to lake Waco at the last minute yesterday and did not catch a thing- still a bit early. Plan to go to the Bend sometime this week.

What's the ideal water elevation on Buchanon for a good run up river?

It doesn't get much better than where were at right now. Talked to my buddy who is a guide and trotliners are saying they are catching some monster stripers 40+" up the river. May need to make a trip with some big gizzards and planer boards soon.

I love this place! I grew up fishing Gorman Falls & Lemon's Camp before it was a park. For years, our deer lease was on the "Baxter" place just across from Barefoot's. I can still imagine that place like it was yesterday. We used to party with our friends back in high school in the 70's at these spots. We almost lost a couple of buddies in the Gorman falls cave in '79. luckily we didn't. Oh the memories...

There were fishing places in Bend called Sulphur Springs and Barefoot's fishing camp. Are those still there? Can you still fish there? I remember catching so many whites before there was a limit of 25. we'd catch a mess of fish and my mom and dad would fry them up for lunch right on the river bank.

Bend Tx is a remote place. But it was a beautiful place to be. If i would have won the 1.5 billion $ lottery, i would buy up some land there.

I am in austin these days and haven't been down there since the drought (2010)? I guess i need to get out there and see it again.

Tight Lines all!

Shut up and fish!

Yes Sulphfer Springs and Barefoot are still there. Spent a lot of time at both growing up. Gorman Falls is part of the park now and is for hiking and sight seeing. Fishing was the best at Lemons early on back in the day. During the best runs upriver the other camps got hot also. Been a long time for any big runs of whites.

Has anyone been out there lately? Or even on Buchanan.

Went out to Colorado Bend State Park on 1/29. lots of water. the fishing was pretty slow for me. caught 4 (one female) the wind picked up after noon and made it too hard for me in my kayak. it was a beautiful day on the water though.

Well nothing available at Sulphur Springs Camp...SMH...waited to long. Anyone know of any cabin rentals near the park to accommodate 4 adults and 2 kids? I know Barefoot is there too but really need a cabin...We wanted to go on 3/16 - 3/20 or so.

Spring break is the single busiest week of the yr for the area. Good luck with late reservations.

My wife and I have a trip booked for the end of March and staying at Sulphur Springs camp. Any bait/tackle shops close by? Anywhere to buy minnows?

used to be a store when you first get off the main road that sold minnows. Not sure it is open. Haven't been in 4 yrs. About 15 yrs in a row for Spring Break. Then had to find other options with no water.

Thanks for that, I'll look into it. Plenty of time to plan. Which road are you talking about?

that would be the main hardtop where you turn left and hit the gravel road. Store is on the left
