SLW - Was real interested in the setup you have in this picture. The wife has been trying to get me into a double Kayak for our fishing camping trips but at my age the time I have spent paddling and even if I had the foot pedals are a little much sometimes for me. But I would love to fish the backwaters of some of the lakes I have been fishing for 30 years especially this time of year. That set up with the two seats and trolling motor looks like it would be awesome for what I am wanting to do. Any info would be appreciated.

SLW - Saw the name on the side of your boat and did some research and found Water Mocassin website. The two seater with trolling motor and even livewell system looks really awesome and not bad pricing also. Let me know your thoughts on fishing and getting around in this boat. I might have to make a trip out to Louisiana and check this out (and get me some good crawdads also).

Bass, You can't beat it. Tracks straight unlike the usual small pontoon type hulls. Has interior lights for night fishing. Navigation lights. A large anchor cleat mounted on the back seat pedestal, really is speedy, comfortable seats. Rear door compartment opens up for easy battery charging. Quality trailer too!

Thanks so much for the info. I have a club tournament on Toledo Bend in March. I leave Friday morning to head that way and may have to make a detour out to that place to check them out.

Sir,

What an amazing post and sets of stories. From 1976 to present, I've spent a great deal of time fishing out of Huxley Bay. All of this has really set off a basket full of wonderful memories. Thank you so very much for starting this post. I'm very grateful and look forward to reading your book and shaking your hand.

God bless you sir,

I've seen this mount but can't place where.
Where is it these days?

We used to watch Harold Allen run up and down Patroon under the bridge in his hot rod outboards back in the early to mid 70s. Had many a good fishing trip out of Holly Park back in those days. I probably never met you, though. I was always twitching a rogue around the bushes with my back to the fish! Thanks for the stories, brother!

There is a mount like it at Mid Lake Marine between the bridge and Toledo Town. Might be one in Fisherman's Galley too. Mr. Gocheau at Mid Lake Marine said he caught them on big deep crank baits. He's dead now. He was the best trolling motor repair man there was.

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

The guy that started this thread said he caught them.

Oh, the wonderful memories of Cajun bass that this thread brings back. It's sad to get old, but that's the natural way of things. Still, damn.

Caught these fish on December 31, 1977 in one day plus a few more between 6 and 8 pounds. I caught them on a Jig and Ell.
Put in at Wright's Landing located about a mile north of San Patricio.
I knew Ralph Gocheau, he was a great guide and did catch a stringer similar to this but not all 8 pounders. He had a few 7s in there.
These fish have never been displayed in a marina on any lake. I did have them on display at Herb's Bass Pro Shop in Shreveport Louisiana for about a month after I caught them. That was when you could buy a BP Franchise for $5,000 from Johnny Morris. (Before he abandoned the franchise business and eventually built the BPS's as they are today.
I do know there were marinas on TB that had stringers similar but none of them matched these 10.
Evidently all the stars were aligned perfectly on that New Year's Eve. 45 degrees, wind calm, low barometer.
I read a story about a guy in Arkansas fishing Lake Millwood on that same day caught a bunch of 9-10 pounders. So I figure the weather conditions were the ultimate for
December 31, 1977. In my new book coming out in a few weeks, I created a map of my big bass holes. Took me hours to get it accurate. I marked the spots with an X and a description of what the hole was like. It is my hope that my book, map included will help some angler have a day like I did. Note I caught 17 more over 7 pounds through January 1978.
What a great lake it was and what a blessing to have been there along my journey!

Hey RickyT, Best bass boat race I watched from the Bridge was between the founder of Mr Twister had a Bullet with a 200 and the guy that owned Custom Prop Shop in Alexandria Skeeter with a souled up 200. Thee bet was $100. The prop shop guy was tied until he reached down and hit his notes oxide switch....He was doing excess of 90 mph. They called it a tie when he told him he used nitros oxide! State Trooper used a radar gun off the bridge. Must have been a 100 people watching from the bridge. I always an a Gary Pendergrass prop that gave 9 more miles per hour
