I got my limit this afternoon and left them biting. All were caught on Mepps spinners. I tried the Berkley worm in several places and no bites.

Fast currents this year are making it a challenge but the bite and ultra light fight these fish bring is well worth it! They are also SUPER good eating! Been getting the limit every time out since the stockings started taking place in early December! Get em while you can! Stockings go on through January for the Guadalupe River! Catching those Rainbow Trout. It just don't get any better! fish

Photo #1 is fresh fried Rainbow Trout. Photo #2 Fresh Fried Crappie fillets. Crappie are super hard to beat and so are the trout. I do favor the Crappie just a little over the trout. The top four best eating fish for me and just my two cents are #1. White Bass. #2.Crappie.#3.Rainbow Trout.and #4. Sunfish(Bluegill,Redear, and Redbreast). As for preparing. I do not fillet the trout. They are very easy to clean. Cut the heads off, gut, and rinse out the cavity super good. For the Crappie I fillet em. I dip em in regular yellow mustard, and then dip them in Louisiana Fish Fry! Fry until golden brown. Served with salad, hush puppies, tomato slices, fresh fried potatoes, and hot corn bread. Oh yea an ICE COLD MODELO! Fishbonz,It just don't get any better! food

The Canyon Trail Race and Huaco Springs are the two best places to catch the stocked trout. As for rigs six pound test line, size 10 Eagle Claw Hooks and Berkley Trout baits. I would also use a small shot to keep it from getting snagged on rocks. Best color trout baits are chartreuse, cheese colored, and orange. You can check the Parks&Wildlife Web site for stocking dates. There is also a stocking post in the Bank Fishing Section. thumb

Went to Hueco for a little over an hour this morning. Caught 2 right away and nothing for the next hour. I was using a Mepps spinner that I caught all the others on Sunday. This was a catch and release mission because my wife's uncle is coming into town right after lunch so I didn't want to mess with cleaning fish when I got home. There were two guys catching them one right after the other on salmon eggs. I didn't want to bother going back to the car to get my other rod with the bait set up since I didn't catch a single one on salmon eggs or power worms Sunday when I was there and this was a quick trip. Maybe Thursday I will hit them again.

Is it crowded at the tailrace now that they are stocking? Doesn't seem like much room down there. I caught a nice limit Sunday and left them biting.

There is another parking area and walking trails just to the right as you are coming into the Trail Race parking lot. We parked at the walking trails. Several paths lead right to the river. We located several nice spots where the trout were stacked. Also there were only several anglers at the Trail Race. This was Monday early morning. Not crowded at all at that time.
