I've been wanting to get down there, but haven't heard anything about it lately. Any reports?

LMB and Crappie were slow in mid-December. Did OK with Cats on trotlines.

White bass are stacked at the mouth of the nueces and even a good ways into the river.. Lots of limits coming out of there.

Can you enter the river from the lake? Is there a boat ramp near the river? Thank you.

Mustang Hollow if the water isn't too low. Not the best ramp. The best bass fishing is up river in my opinion

Tons of small bass and lots of 2's and 3's. Was out there last week 2 guys were flagging me down so i went to see what they needed and they asked for a scale. Claimed they had a DD in the live well. So I asked to see the fish it wasn't a DD but it was an 8 and some change

Caught a ton of smaller ones in the Fall. Was hoping they'd be keepers by this Spring, but seem to just be more and most even smaller than the ones from the fall...

Well I guess that would kind of make sense if there was a good spawn last year. Those fish would be catching size by now and probably alot of em.

I've never bass fished CC even though its the closest lake to home for me and even though we have property on the lake and I've spent a ton of time on it recreationally. Def thinking about giving it a shot once we have quail season behind us.

Went 02/21 after fishing the nueces river. Got there around 4pm. This was my first time on the lake so I decided to focus on docks in protected coves. I have a small aluminium boat and the wind was blowing hard. I fished across from the state park. Water temp was 65, water was partially stained, using football head jig and baby brush hog. Cuaght 4 by 6pm and headed back. 2-3lbs range.

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a map of the lake, not a digital map? Thanks in advance. Going next weekend for a full day, will let you know how it goes.

The last paper maps of Lake Corpus was published by AIDS back in the 70's. None printed since then. Back in the day a lot of the bait shops and convenience stores sold them. For what ever its worth, the paper maps are not much good. I have 3 or 4 left from back then, still use them some, but usually rely on the digital maps, which are not accurate by long shot, by the way.

if you have access to an iPad the Navionics app includes a map of Mathis. I agree with Sandia about the accuracy of available topo maps. Especially on a lake as old as Mathis.

My grandparents lived on Mathis and my brothers and I spent most of the summer there every year until my grandfather passed. I was fifteen Wren that happened. My grandfather was a very dedicated trot liner that specialized in big yellow cats. He fished six days a week. We baited his lines with perch caught on cane poles. Great memories.

If I was going to fish Mathis I would start in the Penitas creek cove. We always did well there. Two creeks farther north on the west bank is what we called Artesian creek, that areas was productive also.

Thanks for the info! I am new to the lake and looking forward to learning it. I was going to start focusing on the creeks first and start looking for grass (may be to early for grass). I believe pre spawn is already started so I can't wait till next weekend!
