Really looking forward to this white bass run this year. Bought my boat last May and missed it. Can anyone tell me a good place to look for some whites when the run starts??? Should I be heading to the creeks that feed into eagle mountain/grapevine/lewisville? Or should I go somewhere on the trinity or the Brazos?? Any suggestions appreciated!! Thanks for the help fellas

This year, the number one creek in DFW metro will prob be Rowlett Creek and Hickory. Mainly because you will have the chance to hit a hybrid.

Hickory takes forever to clear up after a flood. RC takes less than two days to start catching them after the flood.

Hickory is boat worthy and you will irritate to many peeps. A kayak pisses everyone off there. You take ur boat up Rowlett Creek: prepare to peppered by lures while driving around in there. Lots of bank fisherman from the mouth to fire wheel bridge. Plus, you will spook more fish than u will catch.

The brazos has some monster fish and is very boat worthy.

Rowlett Creek is owned by waders and bankers. Someone would just wade over to your boat and pull your plug!

Boating the white bass run.

Never been to the Brazos, so no advice there. Been to the Neches a couple of times, mixed results. The best place to go with a boat, the best run I've found in NE Texas period, is the run in the Sabine above Toledo Bend. There, it is best to have a boat, so no animosity by bank fishermen. Start watching for posts on the Sabine around Mid-Feb, and if all goes well that run will last into mid-to-late March. It is a bit of a drive to get out there, but the fishing is absolutely worth every mile even when it is just average. When it's excellent, it doesn't even seem fair.

Only some of the fish spawn in the creeks. The rest of them spawn in the main lake. Plenty of places to get in on the action from a boat.

Sabine will most likely be flooded out the entire spring. It takes a while for levels to drop and with as much water coming out of North texas lakes I don't see the river dropping any time soon.

Thanks for the information guys! I guess I'll try around and see what's around. A buddy of mine has good luck in the creek area that connects lake worth to eagle mountain

You are likely right, but I'm hoping for a miracle. My trip to the Sabine is the annual trip I look forward to the most. Hoping we get a stretch of dry and the level drops enough to get on some fish, but I know that's a tall order too. Guess I got spoiled in the drought when it could rain two inches up north and barely any made it that far south. Now if you put a cup in any lake, a gallon comes out.

Same with Denton creek above Grapevine. When I lived in Roanoke I would launch at Marshall Creek sometimes but I always did best walking in at the train tracks off 377 and heading west. Way things are going it might be next fall before you launch a boat on Grapevine.

Has anyone seen a spawning run up Kings Creek from Cedar Creek Lake? It's been a while since the main lake has come all the way up that far north.

if youre going to mess around with Denton creek, make a buddy with a beater car drive, that place is notorious for break-ins, and just vandalism, if youve got a CHL....utilize it

Went Ton Top today and only had one fish. They were there a couple of weeks ago but the temp dropped 8 degrees. 46 today and 54 last time.

Regarding Rowlett Creek:
So I went there for the first time yesterday and parked at the Rowlett creek preserve, up north of 66. I walked south past 66 and almost to the Dart train crossing. I only saw one fish and didn't get a bite. I did see this at the 66 bridge
Looks like the damm (pun intended) beavers been at work.
So I do have a question here....Was I too far north to have much of a chance at crappie and an occasional early sand bass? There was plenty of structure I threw at but most of it was north of that clog in the picture.
I did enjoy getting to become more familiarized with the creek at the very least. I think I walked from roughly 3-5 on the trail. From what I've read, it sounds like the fishing is better from 5-9 and I've even heard reference to 12.
Sorry I'm all over the place, I'm mainly needing help familiarizing myself with the different trail numbers people seem to reference and where they roughly are. I appreciate any assistance.
Tight lines!

Thank you for all of your useful info that you post Jimmy. My son and I look forward to catching some nice sandies and hopefully even a hybrid or three this season.
