Just got my 2016 trailer tag renewal. Am I really required to take my trailer to be inspected in order to get renewed? If you've ben through this, I am interested in what they inspect and how the process works. Thanks,

If it says you have to get it renewed then yes you have to have the inspection. Pretty simple, they check the lights, tires, safety chains/cable, etc and they are supposed to check the brakes; but my place did not do that.

State inspection is only required for trailers that weigh over 4500 pounds. Most bass boat trailers do not weight that. My 19 bass boat trailer weighs 1200 pounds without the boat. With the boat, gear, gas, etc. its about 3000 pounds

required with a GVWR of more than 4500 lb.s , does not matter what it weighs it is what it is rated for.

If your trailer requires it, you should have received a letter stating so instead of an actual renewal form. No ig deal, but it's a hassell as I had to get the inspection then take the letter and inspection to the tax office instead of going anywhere.

I took my boat registration to the tag place and told the lady that my boat and trailer together didn't weigh that much, and mine said the trailer was 4500. She asked what my boat weighed and I showed her, she changed it and now I don't have to have it inspected.

Tire shop on the south side of Yantis. Make sure everything works, lights, and brakes.
