Congratulations! That's some hefty gals. I hope they don't lose too much weight before I get there for a planned 3 week visit. I grew up there and still own the family farm that happens to be strategically located at less than 1 hour's drive to half a dozen of the state lakes specifically managed for gamefish. One of them has a current largemouth lake record of over 15 pounds.

Come on now, that's a slow weekend on Kiowa during the spring...

Then I'm headed to Kiowa!!

You just gotta know the right people to get on Kiowa since its a private lake, but it will shock you the kind of fish that live in that little lake. My best tournament this past year was 27 and change and they were caught in about 30 minutes. Had several days in the summer fishin structure that best 5 would have gone 28-35lbs, nothing like what your catching though. That is amazing man!

Who said it was Kiowa? Thought it was in Mississippi? Lake Okhissa maybe?

Kiowa was mentioned only as a quality comparison. There was no intent to imply that he was fishing at Kiowa.

Mississippi has a number of small lakes intensively managed for gamefish. Some are "sleeper" lakes with respect to big bass. While a lake may be known for its catfish or panfish, there are sometimes quiet/discrete trophy bass fishermen having a good time also...

Okhissa had been so low it was closed for some time. It was also out of balance and had a lot of small bass. I lost track of where that lake stands now as far as management goes. If they have started over, a hey-day for that lake is coming in the future, after a proper growth period.

Thanks for the story. I just don't have the patience to sit in one spot all day for one bite. The persistence and dedication it takes to do that has paid off for you.

Did you target this lake with a plan of action in place to grind it out?

One more question: Why did you choose 12 pound line to fish the jig? Is there a lot of cover where you are fishing or is it open water?
