Does Zebco and Quantum have ties? I was going to get my son a KVD Quantum PT100S for his birthday through Amazon and it says by Zebco

Yes Zebco brands own Quantum. If call for parts for Quantum you call Zebco brands.

I owned that reel for 3 days and took it back to Academy where it was on clearance. I've owned all brands of reels and Quantum makes fine reels but they are tough to fine tune. Change a lure, have to adjust the reel again. Inside the left side of the reel, there's a micro adjustment knob, turn it on and impacts the performance. Check out the Lew's LFS Series of reels.

Im not a fan of Quantum at all personally. After seeing some of the ridiculously cheap plastic parts they used on a higher end EXO reel that I was repairing for a customer I lost what little respect I had for them after that. Had to buy a whole spool to fix the problem too because of the cheap plastic housing they use for the brakes on that reel. Quality just isn't there for me.

I have a Kinetic 100S and have enjoyed it although its not used that much.(who knows how long it will last) Its the one I throw in the truck when go to lake cabin
and my son used it all day with no problems (first time ever with baitcaster) so was thinking about getting him one for his birthday. Maybe there is a better choice for around 70-80 bucks?

You can get one of Academys h20 Mettle reels in that price range. And the good thing about those is if they ever break you can just take them back and Academy will swap them out for a new one.
