I haven't been fishing a Carolina rig long, but in the 2 trips I've used everything from a 12" worm to a brush hog jr. I have caught one fish and jumped a big one but it seems like everyone that i see throwing a c-rig is using a different lure, YALL HAVE ANY RECOMENDATIONS ON LURES? (I am fishing a clear lake) and does the bite feel different depending on the lure your throwing? I know the bite is supposed to be a preassure bite but I'm still lost... Any tips on how to retreave them, the bite, or what lures to throw would be appreciated. Thanks

My favorite is either a Lake Fork Tackle Ringfry or a Grandebass Rattlesnake. Honestly though you are covering a couple bases real well with the Baby Brushhog and a 12" worm. The smaller Brushhog is an excellent "numbers" bait on a C-rig and the big worms are great "big fish" baits. Sounds like you are probably just not fishing a C-rig where or when the fish are biting. Timing/location is everything. My standard set up is: braid main line, 3/4 to 1oz weight(depending on depth/wind), quality swivel, 12-15lb mono leader and finish with a 2/0 or 3/0 EWG hook(5/0 if fishing big worms). Don't over think it-just keep trying!

I am much like 361V. I use the GrandeBass Snake or AirTails or baby brush hogs. I use a 1oz weight almost always. the only difference for me is the hook. I use an offset hook, not the EWG. I get more hook ups IMO that way.

As far as the bite is concerned, you really have to watch your line more than anything. Many times the fish will swim away with your bait well before you feel them. Also...I find that adding scent to it helps give you that extra half second to set the hook.

Make sure you use a 7'6" pole or longer. IMO this will help you take up line quickly for your hooksets.

This is one of my favorites for a C-rig! It's kind of a hybrid between a creature bait and a worm. I like to use it in the clear lakes that I fish because it has a subtle action and it's something that the fish don't see very often. Just a fun little bait to throw.

Just a slow sweeping motion is all you need to fish anything on a Carolina rig. Most of the bites feel like odd pressure or something irregular. Paying attention to how it feels without a fish on the end will help you detect when there IS a fish on the end.

Hard to go wrong on a C-Rig bait. Love the Bill Wilcox approved Bubble Fry. I like a 7 or 10" Power Worm. A baby brush hog is great as is a Fluke or a trick worm. Some people C-Rig a Senko. And a friend of mine would say Let me tell you something... Use a Speed Craw. Try different stuff until you find what they want to eat.

I personally like to throw 12" worms. The problem is that the bites are usually few because it is targeting bigger fish. Anything that you might fish on a Texas rig would work and have even heard people using crank baits and such. For me the normal bite is a dbl tap. Don't be afraid to throw it and just let it sit there for awhile before retrieving. I use 3/4 to 1 oz brass weights with a couple of beads and whether the initial plop of the setup scares the fish away or draws them in as curiosity, I don't know but have had bites where I backlashed and the lure had never been moved. The length of your leader can have effects. I generally use 18" to 3' and just a pull with rod tip several inches and pause. Sometimes the pull is slow and sometimes it is a jerk.

If it is a clear lake then try downsizing the bait and see what happens. Patience and the right locations for it are the keys.

I throw a bby brush hog more than anything else. Fish it slow. Try to picture everything the weight comes in contact with. It will help you get more bites.

Any soft plastic but make sure that the hook is matched to the bait. My favorite is 1/2 oz weight, a plastic bead, swivel and about 2' leader. Favorite bait is baby brush hog. I use braid for main line and mono for leader. Clear water usually calls for lighter line and small hooks.

I like the 10" Power Worm in hot months and a 6" or 8" Mann's Jelly Worm any other time.

There is no wrong lure to throw on a c-rig. Don't be afraid to try any soft plastics until you find what works for you. There's no substitute for time on the water, fish it often and in various situations. Experiment with weights and leader lengths until you find what works best for you. Most important thing to remember is think outside the box. Don't get locked into anything. The more you fish it the better you will get at it. Road beds and any hard bottoms(rock, shellbeds, red clay, submerged structure) are always good c-rig spots. As with any presentation you are just going to have to put your time in to get good at it,but once you learn a few basics its definitely a proven go getter.

You can use just about any soft plastic you want. I typically throw a 3' leader with a swivel, plastic bead and egg sinker. An egg sinker is a must around rocks or you'll get more hang ups. Bullet weights work fine otherwise if that's all you have. Sometimes I'll use a heavier pound test on my leader for a slower fall. You can fish it two different ways. Either use a side ways sweeping motion with the rod or a vertical 9 - 11 o' clock motion. In shallower water I use a 1/2 oz. sinker mid range 3/4 and deep water 1 oz. You'll need a longer heavier rod and a fast reel. This will allow you to get line in quickly to set the hook. A lot of time fish will hit it on the fall after casting or something just feels different as you're working it back. Good luck and hope this helps.

I'm probably the least qualified with the c-rig but spent a lot of this past Fall practicing with it and even got my first tournament win using it.

I learned from the old timers that the six inches Lizard almost never fails to draw bites. I've used almost everything mentioned and caught fish but the Lizard has been the old standby.

As for technique, I've been unable to master the drag/sweep technique and miss a lot of fish trying it. However, I really increased my bite detection and hookup by using a vertical left from 9 to 12 much like you would work a jig in brush piles.

Good luck!

Watermelon magic baby brush hog in clear water green pumpkin in stained, if that won't work try a 10" blue fleck power worm, or watermelon grub or ring fry. The baby brush hog will put big fish in the boat if you are in the right area most of the fish in my signature were caught on a crig baby brush hog.

Also you want to keep the weight on the bottom making noise and stirring up dirt, if your fishing a drop off you might try dragging up hill or Parallel to the drop to maintain contact with the bottom. If something feels funny set the hook.
