I've fished for hybrids and stripers for 20 years. In that time frame I've heard many ideas on how to fish for them. I've learned to fish for them at night with plugs. Some people say to turn everything off, lights, fish finders, and be totally quiet. Others have huge lights that they shine on the bank and their fish finder going. During the day, some say you have to be quiet when approaching birds circling and others don't think it matters. Others say you can beat on your boat to attract fish. I've personally thought you had to be quiet, but I got over it very quick when my buddy and I ran our boat toward a school of shad and left the big motor going while my buddy threw the cast net. After several tosses with the net, stripers started busting right next to the boat. The motor was still running! We promptly put some shad on hooks and started catching stripers. Was it a fluke? Nope, because it happened again while fishing for hybrids. I started tossing dead and injured shad back in the lake after my buddy had just thrown his net. Hybrids started busting right next to the boat. I quickly hooked up a shad and caught a nice hybrid. I decided that noise does not have much affect and may very well turn them on. Recently my buddy and I were on a lake and were chasing birds. We would fly right into the birds and start casting as the birds flew away. We caught many, many hybrids, stripers and white bass in three days of fishing. On one occasion we ran toward some birds shut off the motor and drifted into the birds. There was a boat there who had been fishing for several minutes before we got there and hadn't caught a fish. The guy in the boat was very angry with us telling us we scared the birds and the fish. As he motored away from us toward the birds who have moved just a short distance away, my buddy took his first cast and hooked a nice 15 lb striper. I few minutes later my buddy hooked a nice 6 lb hybrid. Even though we caught fish in that spot, the fellow in the other boat was telling other boats in ear shot of us that we scared the fish and birds. Once we were fishing around 8 or 10 other boats. A couple of the boats were friends of ours. We caught a couple from that spot but the bite slowed down so we fired up the boat and took off at a very high rate of speed. After we left, one of our buddies called to say that when we fired up the big motor and took off, the stripers and hybrids went nuts. He said everyone was catching fish and my buddy ended up catching 13 stripers and hybrids from that school. Wow, we turned them on and didn't get to catch them. So I guess it doesn't matter to the fish, but it does matter to fisherman. Even though it doesn't seem matter to the fish, we will respect others opinions and if there are boats already on birds, we will ease into them to show respect for their way of thinking. Now if we see birds and no one else is on them, we are going in full force. We did feel bad that the fellow in the other boat wasn't able to catch a fish out of that school. It did make us feel a little better to be netting nice fish as the other fellow was talking about some beach though.

I don't believe running into feeding birds with my outboard wide open is the way to go but yesterday on Hubbard we were dead sticking in 40 ft of water and when it slowed down every time we fired up the outboard the fish would group up back under us again.

Let me be brief. Wow.

Another instance was when we were fishing a school of fish and the bite died down.

We fired up the big motor and took off. There was a big island that we had to go around and when we got to the other side, we saw birds making a b-line for the area we had just left 30 seconds earlier.

We went all the way around this island only to see birds going crazy right where we left from. We saw fish boiling and birds dipping. We caught a couple more from that school.

In 3 days of fishing we caught 71 stripers, hybrids and white bass. 10 were hybrids up to 9 1/2 lb, 3 were white bass all 2 1/2 to 3 lb, and the rest were stripers up to 17 lb. All on lures.

Not one of these fish could care less whether I ran my words together or not, had my grammer correct, or could even spell grammar correctly. But I have been corrected and will try to do better if I ever post again.
