I'm about to pull the trigger on the landing gear setup for my slayer propel 13 and I've been on the edge about it. Does anyone use the landing gear on their kayak and have some pros and cons on it?

A game-changer, I think, Johnny. It means you can load your kayak up haul it to the lake, put it in the water and float it and then raise the wheels. When you finish fishing, float up to I guess knee deep water, hop out and drop the gear and roll out of the water.

I bet this system will save an hour of preparatory off-the-water time, before and after the actual time in the water.

I want to see it mounted on the slightly wider 10' to make certain the wheels don't rub.

Anyway, a great system I think.

Placed an order for it this morning so I'll try and post some photos of the setup later on.

Not the same, but I'm rigging out a 12-foot flat-bottomed boat my Dad bought around 1960, and I have made a set of clamp-on wheels for the transom, so I can launch it out of my truck bed(with an extender), and take them off after I launch. Waiting for the weather to get better to try them out.

I built a set of dolly wheels for my kayak a few years back, and the first time I launched with them, a 12-year-old kid swimming in the Guadalupe yelled "I like your training wheels!" Smart-A^^!

I think those things are made well but way too heavy. A good kayak cart is all you need, not a permanently mounted set of expensive wheels. My thoughts...

Finally getting around to posting some photos of the install for the Landing Gear. The install was very simple and took around 30 minutes to complete. Started off by carefully selecting a location for the mounts. This was partially based on a few other youtube videos that I saw. One in particular that helped me decide on the unit was a vid by Beyond The Bounds.

Marked 4 holes, drilled them, attached the backing plate/bolts with some marine goop to help seal the holes up. After that, assembled the wheels to the legs using 2 locking pins on each side of the wheel and the system was ready to roll. Literally, ha.

I got the chance to use it this past weekend and it worked like a charm. Really satisfied with the purchase!

I've seen that video, really good! And, the install photos help, too.

It will just making getting into the water so much quicker, add areas you can use to access water.

I'll likely get one as soon as we move.

And, are you planning to add some rod holders or other accessories to the Boonedox Landing Gear?

Whenever I get a chance to fish out of the kayak vs from the bank I take it. Having 2 kiddos makes it a little tough, so when I get a small window I jump on it and take off. Landing gear is there to help get me on and off the water a little quicker.

I forget that it also allows for extra accessories to be mounted. As for rod holders, I have a yakattack blackpak with 4 holders. I had to modify the blackpak because the LG pushed it a few inches back in the rear tapered storage area. I mounted 2 holders on each side and sawed a couple of inches from the bottom of the holders. This allowed the blackpak to sit exactly where I wanted. Loving my setup and glad that it was able to work out.

That is a good conversion to make it all work.

I suppose I was thinking more about the actual tracks that are on the Landing Gear itself, that it has tracks for mounts for things such as rod holders.

If someone were concerned about the weight of the Boonedox Landing Gear, I wouldn't be by the way, these mounts might eliminate some of the need for crates where rod holders are often attached. If nothing else it would free up some room.

I really like the idea of parking, rolling down to the water, then into it to float the kayak off of its wheels, then folding them back and up, fishing, and reverse the process coming out of the water.

Just a guess that some kayak manufacturers will fit something similar to this, actually form it into the vessel . . . sooner or later.

Getting in and out of the water is too big a deal for it to be ignored, certainly for fishing kayaks.
