Happy new year! With the new year, having moved to the Houston area recently, I've decided to fish the salt this year after fishing freshwater my whole life. Heading to the surfside jetty next Sunday and have a few questions.

1. Anyone wanna meet up and fish/show me a thing or two?

2. Where will I be able to get shrimp or crab Sunday morning? I plan on targeting sheepshead.

3. If you think the jetty would be a waste of time, care to point me to another place with access for a non-boater?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Not an expert by no means but I know a thing or two. You can get shrimp at any bait shop and there's multiple bait shops all around the coast. Just simply google them. Crab, small ones like fiddler crabs you'll probably have to catch them yourself. If you're wanting blue crab, buy them at any Asian market. With a little luck you should be able to catch speckled trout on live shrimp, sheepshead on shrimp or small crabs, red and black drum on just about anything (dead shrimp, cut mullet, live mullet, etc)

There are many baitshops on the road into surfside and they have been open everytime I have been down that way. I was down there about 3 weeks ago and the channel was full of fresh runoff from the Brazos and there was not a lot of fish being caught, but I am new to the salt game also. Really nice place to fish though!
