40 year bass fisherman but have absolutely no salt experience, going to Rockport next weekend with some buddies, have all kinds of bass tackle, but what would be just an essential amount of artificial baits to take, also line size and so you need any kind of leader, like I said a rookie
Thanks

You should try some swim baits you may already have like the lake fork or reaction lures work just fine or pick up a popping cork and some berkly gulp 4" shrimp I like the white with a chartreuse tail. Your line should be fine if it works for bass I don't see why you couldn't try it in the salt, I have fished with other bass anglers that didn't change there line and had no problems ( there is a article posted on here that talks some about rigging a popping cork these things work, Popping Cork Surprise)

Crank baits can catch redfish and trout. 20lbs braid with 20lbs fluorocarbon leader is what I use.

3/4 oz rattle traps gold or chrome work good right now in the canals.
If you catch a warming trend your spook topwaters are killer over dark mud/grass.
Redfish will blow a hole in the water after a wobble head jig.
I don't screw with leaders, 20# braid on spinning rods for 1/8 oz jigheads, 15# mono on casting rods for topwaters/hard baits.

Pat gives good info.

Lures that rattle are very effective, that's why I invented the Rockport Rattler jig and got a US Patent on it. I sold the company about 5 years ago, but they are still a very effective jighead in my SW arsenal..

In the Rockport Bay System, I like the plum/chartreuse SW Bass Assassins, they work for me year round on the Big 3: Trout, reds and flounder.

Power Pro braid is the ticket, as far as line goes, with all these awesome shell reefs we have to fish here.

Go out and buy a 7 foot light action rod with a fast tip. You wont want a 6 footer....trust me.

Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.
