Like many of you out there, I had never caught a double digit bass in all of my time out bass fishing. I had been close, catching several 8 pounders and 3 over 9. I've felt like I've lost a few good ones at the boat, but, who cares right?

Well today was different. I slept in, got on the water at about 10. Sunny, off-colored water, 55* water temp, 45* air temp. Started fishing deep structure, first with a 6XD before switching to a 3/4 Strike King Structure Jig in Black/Blue.

Didn't get a bite until about 1, when my jig went weightless, I reeled in some slack, and laid into it. Felt heavy, but didn't fight exceptionally hard. Got it in the net, quickly put it in my livewell before I measured, weighed, and photographed.

Maybe some of you all can relate? I almost didn't want to weigh it for fear it wouldn't be over 10. But I went for it, fish was 24" long, 20 1/2" girth, and weighed 10.65 LBS on my rapala scale. Fish swam off for someone else to catch!

If you haven't caught a DD fish, don't worry! it'll happen. Don't give up on it, this is the time of year, in my opinion, when it can happen. Just got out and fish big fish baits, slowly, slow down. I only had one bite and one fish today, but it was the fish of my lifetime. Don't give up on that.

Here she is!

Nice, and I can relate on the first DD, scared to pull out the scales, I called my wife and said, get out of that bed and bring the camera, you can be sick the rest of your life. Anyway congratulations, always the next bite.

Congratulations!! Nice report and photo. Looks like you nailed all the stereotypes for big bass - middle of the day, one bite all day, jig (black/blue no less)...Thanks for posting.
