Was wanting to take the kids for their first Striper day and was wondering if they are schooling on top with this cool weather and cloud cover? Used to catch this time around Costello but haven't tried in a few years.
Thanks

I was at PK today (Not Fishing), and from Rock Creek to Broadway is chocolate milk. It clears up around the South side of the Penninsula, and stays somewhat stained from there. They are releasing a good amount of water, it looked like one gate down 40% and two gates probably 15% open. The Brazos is still giving PK water, so this will probably continue for a few more days. I would expect the mudline to keep inching towards the dam. I have seen no top water action lately when I have been on the lake. The last time I was there fishing, the fish were scattered, and we picked up a few here and there. They were mostly 19"-22" fish, and we CPR'd all of them. Good luck.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like it may be better to look somewhere else.

From what I have read and heard, most of the striper and hybrid lakes are tough fishing right now. Even Tawok if you don't know the lake. My advice and it is free is, if you want to have a great fishing trip on PK, call Randy Wood and set up a guide trip with him. He is a great guy and knows PK like the back of his hand. If you want to go somewhere around Fort Worth, Mike Acosta on Granbury is the man to call. Texoma is tough and even the guides seem to be having trouble. Looks like you are new to the forum. Spend some time on here and you will find the best places to go. Guides will help you with when the fish are biting, but most won't tell you were.

I don't know---I haven't been on Twok in over a year but I only caught about 30 hybrids in an hour and a half. Its pretty easy this time of the year. Fish structure slowly then look for bird activity but I'm probably wrong.

Water is clear by the dam and in Neely Slough. Not that much surface activity in the morning like I see when there are lots of stripers. Saw a lone cormorant fishing so there might be some Shad.

My best Advise is to call Randy Wood or one of the other guides that fish the lake a lot. I have a lake house on PK and probably fish it 150 days a year and I would expect a emphatic skunking if I went out right now. Also, even when the water temp was 70 you needed live shad to do any good. Most of the stripers went out the flood gates when they were opened. There are still some in the lake but I think you'll need a guide to get them in January.

Only 58 days til march.

Not sure but I'm sure they will stock some. They are keeping stripers in a tank at the PK hatchery to get fry from so there will be a stocking. With all the rain there was a successful spawn at PK in 2015. Lots of 6-10 inch stripers. It will really good in a year or two after the El Nino
