I am considering getting a Lowrance Elite 4X fishfinder for my Wilderness Ride 115 and have two questions. The Ride 115 has the console that is set up for Lowrance. Right now the Elite 5X is on sale for roughly the 4X price. The 5X is the wider screen. Does anyone have any thoughts about using the wide-screen fish finder versus the narrow? I am wondering if the wider screen will get in the way?

Also, does anyone have the finder/chartplotter-GPS combo? Is it worth the extra $100 to get the chartplotter option, mainly used for depth contours? I generally do not paddle far enough to be concerned about getting lost.

Thanks in advance.

If the price of the 5 is the same as the 4, get the 5. Gps isn't always about getting lost. Use it to mark your favorite spots.

I have a 4X and really wish I had gps. I would definitely spend the extra money and get it.

Normally I'd say bigger is always better, however if you are getting a FF without Side Image (Sonar / DI only) the the height of the display may be more important than the width. The 4x is only .7" smaller than the 5x. This is measured diagonal across the screen.
Like said above GPS is not just to keep you from getting lost.
