After reading and reading i am just a confused as ever. I want to have the Smart craft gauges. I have seen the Gauge that reads just about every function with the touch of a button. I actually seen one on Shaw Grisby s/p boat. But i cant figure out what one will work for the new motor i am buying. So i am looking for help from the experts here. I am not wanting to break the bank. I do have hummingbird grafts that will give me speed GPS water temp. I want one or two gauges that give me the info i need for the motor.

All you need is the Level 1 Mercmonitor.

The two speedo and tach gauges are great. They are a pricey (under a grand) with the cables. Faria makes them which are Mercury compatible. The SC1000 Merc Monitor single gauge kit is under 300 bucks on Ebay. Most of the Smartcraft stuff is universal for all Mercury outboards built from 2002.

If your new motor is NMEA 2000 (probably is) you can you the Lowrance LMF series. I replaced all of my gauges with two LMF-400s.

You will need to set up a NMEA 2000 network. The Lowrance site has instructions for connecting the motors to a NMEA network along with the needed wiring harness. About $70 for the NMEA starter kit and about $100 for the wiring harness. I think all of the high end gauge packages use NMEA now. In fact the Evinrude gauges are the LMFseries. My motor is a Yamaha but it was easy to get it set up. Not sure on Mercs but there were a couple of extras I had to do for trim and water pressure.
