I was wondering, how many of you use some kind of backing to fill your spool and then tie a knot to your flouro? Like 1/2 full of mono or braid and then 60-100 yards of floruo? What knot do you use? The downside I see is if you use mono you bring a lot of stretch into the equation that wouldn't be there with straight flouro. I am not a big fan of braid because of the way it behaves in wind and getting twisted around the rod tip in the wind. Thoughts?

I do all the time on flipping rods but not C rig or crankbait
Double Uni Knot is what I tie

I am a little stingier with the fluoro going with a max of about 40-50 yards so it don’t hurt as bad to change it out. Backing is always mono or fluoro and a blood knot if I am not in a hurry and using any knot if in a hurry. I rarely ever get down to the knot and if I do, I just pick up a similar setup and roll with it.

The backing never leaves the reel, so it really doesn't matter what kind if line it is. I use a cheap mono. That way each spool of flouro is good for two changes

I use Big Game backing on everything except crank bait rods. I use the Alberto knot to join them and then spool on 50yds of fluorocarbon. I use the green big game so you can see when you are starting to get close to the backing and need to respool.

I'll crank on about twenty yards of braid, then connect that to flouro with an Alberto knot.

Maybe a little bit of overkill Frank but I enjoyed watching this.

I have loaded most of my reels full with braid. I then tie a flora carbon liter 2 to 3 feet long to the braid. You can use a blood knot for that. There are some other knots that will also work. I use a micro swivel 30 lbs with palomar knot at each connection point. Can tie this knot in the dark with my eyes closed. Easiest procedure is to tie liter to swivel then swivel to braid. Trim unwanted excess and tie on bait. If need to break off will often break at hook and if enough liter left can retie hook sometimes breaks off at swivel. When that happens I cut swivel off the braid and start over.

No comment......

Last time I commented on this it turned into a book, instead of a thread. Surprised it never got locked and deleted. Lol.

$500? Anyone?

Just kidding.

I tie braid to fluoro in 5 foot increments using Henrico knots. This way depending on my mood, I can have a braid or a fluoro leader.

Let's be sensible this time.......use cheap any kind of line. I won't use braid or flouro for backing because it's the most expensive. I use a double uni-knot, too. Now, I'll take that $500 and raise ya a 'hunnert.
