I have spent a while on Google earth trying to find a closer place to launch on the north end of Hubbard than the 66 highway ramp to get up closer to the channel below Lavon. I don't want to "mud" it by highway 78 and would like to find a safe place to launch and leave my truck.
I know at one time there was to be a canoe/kayak launch developed on the north east part,at Dalton Rd. but never heard much else about it. Anyone heard anything about it? The google earth pic was from 2013 and it was still a field of thick brush. TPW said the massive droughts and budget cuts curtailed the kayak trails development seriously for the time being.
Any ideas?
Thanks In Advance, Phill

That is the last thing I heard on Dalton too Phil. I also heard they are still ticketing for parking there at the barricade. I have also looked at launching by 205 on Thompson Branch but have never looked at it seriously.

I've launched at that spot on Dalton this summer. Its a short drag (40-50 yards) to the water once you hop the "no motorized vehicles" gate. Its an easy launch, but can be difficult to find on your way back in.

When I look at Google maps, the location near 205/Thompson Branch shows a vehicle parked right off the road. Might be doable there. Looks like you need decent water level though as whenever this pic was taken, the water doesn't even look to connect with the lake.

A lot of the google earth pics were taken while the lake was very low. I am pretty sure it might be better now.
I have looked at that location over the years and even used to bank fish crappie there during the spawn, but have been hesitant to leave my truck there.

i've launched from 205 on the Thompson branch channel back during the late summer. it was simple enough, although a word of caution. The paddle from 205 back to the just the mouth of the river isn't as short as you might think, and I saw more BIG water moccasins than I cared too. I'll not be launching there again. The channel is very narrow in some spots and the snakes were fairly interested in my kayak.

I launched there this summer a couple of times.
