What are some good lakes for bank fishing for bass in the dfw area? I'm looking for lakes with good bank access and shallow cover. Thanks

I'm kind of a homer because I live so close but Ray Roberts is pretty good bass fishing from the banks. Plenty of shoreline with all the parks and trails. The Johnson branch up on the north side of the lake has always been good to me. Fishing down around the camping shoreline or following some of the trails down to the shoreline. The only downside right now is that its flooded and I'm not sure how close you can get to the spots you want to be. I'm going up there on Sunday so I will try to give you an update then. Good luck.

Reece,
We are blessed to have some very good lakes in the DFW area, that said finding productive shore fishing for bass can be a challenge due to limited public bank access on so many lakes.
One lake I have had some great success in the past at is Lake Grapevine. I like to throw plastics and there are some access points to banks that offer a variety of water depths and structure that I have caught some nice bass early in the morning at Grapevine.

I cant remember the trail numbers I walked down but I think you might be able to do some research on the TFF using the search feature for past post about bank fishing at this or most any other lake in Texas.

When the weather is not cooperating, you might want to pick a lake close to you and spend some time doing a drive around to see what is available, good luck to you in your quest.

No problem, I wish that I could remember the location of the trails I walked to the shoreline. I first started fishing Lake Grapevine in the warmer months in meet and greets with the guys/gals I been communicating with that focused primarily on carp and other rough fish.

Years ago, the rough fish fisherman did not have their own section/forum on the TFF. So as they made their post about their fishing trips in this the bank fishing forum,I started to read what they wrote and I soon gained respect and admiration for how helpful they were to anyone who wanted to try to succeed in catching carp or other rough fish. Reading their post I realized they just seemed like the type of fisherman I would like to share a day of bank fishing.

And I was right, I have had the pleasure of meeting and fishing with at least a dozen of the carp fisherman over the years. They are a great bunch, we had some great fishing trips together spending all day fishing at Lake Grapevine. We fished mostly at Murrell Park.

The area we fished was not the most accessible, it had rough terrain with high cliffs and not a lot of places to walk back and forth. But that lake is beautiful, and as a bass fisherman I went back from time to time driving around the lake close to Murrell Park. In my search for easy access bank fishing to do some bass fishing, I found some areas that really paid off for me.
I mostly fished in the summer early in the morning, and in those trips I would usually succeed in catching bass in the 1 to 3lb range. On most trips I could catch 4 to 8 bass per trip. Grapevine is a pretty lake and it served as much as natures therapy as it did to produce bass to catch.

I cant speak for the productivity of the areas I fished this time of year. All of my trips were in very late spring and through the summer. So, if you find some good looking water and you don't do well this winter, give it another try in the spring or summer. The lake has a good population of bass. And the catfish were hard to keep off of our baits as we competed against each other in our carp fishing gatherings. That lake is a quality fishery, lots of sand bass that can be caught by the shore too.

All you have to do is search and explore, there are waiting for you. fish

You can always try White Rock Lake. I have no idea how the bite is now but here is an old thread about the lake.

Good luck!

I'm planning on trying white rock pretty soon again. I went about a year and a half ago before I knew what I was doing and didn't catch anything. I'll have to try it again.
