Hey Guys,

I'm sure many of you know about Power Pole's Mirco anchor created for kayaks and other small watercraft, but does anyone have one? I can see how it could be really useful for creeping up on fish in shallow water, but for $600 it seems like it should make fish jump in the yak. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger and getting one but wanted to hear yall's feedback.

I've thought about it and will probably end up with one. I think "worth" is a matter of personal preference and is very individualized for your specific style of fishing. I mostly bass fish and tend to fish shallow much of the time, which would make a power pole worth more to me than someone who fishes offshore. I have no other hobbies to speak of and spend almost no money on anything else. I fish a great deal and can appreciate anything that might make life easier on the water, especially on a windy day. I have always relied on an anchor, but it's not always the best option.

I had one on my Slayer. Very nice accessory to have if you fish in shallow water a lot.

I've had mine for over a year. Sometimes I don't use it at all during the course of a day's fishing. Other days it's invaluable. I don't regret spending the money one bit. It comes in handy to keep from drifting off after you catch one. Keep in mind that the pole really catches a lot of wind.

I mentioned this product before. I think there are two or more companies with this sort of stick anchor.

The videos make it look pretty compelling.

How's a micro power pole much different in function from a stakeout pole and how can you justify the additional cost?

I was fishing with a guide in south carolina last year and he had one. It was amazing. Not enough for me to buy one because I fish both deep and shallow but if you stick to shallow then score. They work great.

Ridiculous waste of money IMHO. Stakeout pole and/or #5 dumbell is all you'll ever need and they are "stealthy"

The same way we all justify the outrageous prices we pay for all of our kayak fishing toys.

Some might look at all of our expenses as ridiculous. There is a difference between "need" and "extra convenience".
Yeah, I don't know about the stealthy part - banging and fumbling around with fouled up rope and a stick/dumbbell, while getting blown around by the wind.
But like you said, that is your opinion.

It seems like it has it's time and place. They thought of quickly and easily being able to stop yourself in shallow water is huge. How many times do we find ourselves fishing a shoreline and see a good looking piece of cover and want to fish it more? Instead of messing around and getting a pole out or an anchor and possibly spooking the fish it's much easier to push a button and be stable. Or like others said when you do hook into one, it'd be nice to hold position. Kevin Dismuke has a homeade one that looks pretty darn neat. He is on the DFW Kayak Fishing page a lot.

I might have one further down the road, but not any time soon.

Put the power pole on your powerboat where it would be more practical.
Keeping kayak fishing as simple as possible is what it's always been about.

For me the answer is yes, the Micro Power Pole is totally worth it! If you are a serious kayak angler who wants to take advantage of every shallow water opportunity you get you owe it to yourself to have a PP micro.

I fish for a variety of fish fresh and saltwater and find that the Power Pole Micro excels way past a manual stake out pole in many aspects. When it's really windy or there is a strong current, when the sediment is too firm to drive a manual stake out pole into place, or if you just need to stop in a hurry and not make a ton of noise the PP micro shines.

Do I always take the PP Micro with me? No, but when I need to have one I'm sure glad I have that option.

As a guide if I want to stop my client in a specific spot and not have them drift off the fish I can do that with a touch of a button.

At around $900 (spike, mounting bracket, unit, battery)the price is definitely steep for the budget minded kayak angler, but for the serious tournament angler or recreational guy who loves to have all the bells and whistles I'd highly recommend trying one out.

I couldn't ever justify the weight or expense. My stake out pole works just fine for me.

My problem is you are stuck with a rear stake out. I feel you'll have to position your kayak down wind from where it stakes or you'll get blown out of position. With a stake out poll I can attach it to my anchor trolley and position my yak as need to the wind by moving the trolley.
