Wanted to hit the lake before the weather changed. Ran about 3 miles up Hickory creek to some spots that have held fish for me since the 80s but found almost no bait and no crappie. Gave it about 2 hours but nada. Went out to about 40'of water and jigged some deep structure and pulled 7 fish to 1lb 13oz. Had one much larger up to surface, but came off when I went to swing her in the boat. Keep a couple for dinner and the rest went back. Very soft bite. Used black and chartreuse jokers. Was a nice calm day on water.

Welcome to the board. I have not had much luck up Hickory Creek the past couple of years either.
Good to see another HV'er on the site!

Probably too much fresh and muddy water. About the time the shad would be moving up the creeks this past Fall, we had that big flood in November. I wonder if that had something to do with it? After the lake level settles back down, I wonder if the shad will migrate back up the creek or just stay deep the remainder of the winter?

I think the lake needs to get back to a normal level for the fishing to be any good in the creeks.

Welcome to the Forum, Good report. I have found about the same on the creeks just to much water. The banks were soft and some are caving in but in a few days it will all work out. On the lake in the tail waters lots of trash and lots of brush piles, logs and all or on the move. Just a be careful sort of time, of taking it easy.
