It's open, we just left. Based on what we saw you may wanna give it a few days.

thinking about going to welsh this weekend. never been, so:

1. are there stumps that would keep you from running on plane?
2. I think I read that there was hydrilla in the upper end, what about the lower end?
3. anything close to the lake to go get lunch?
4. anything else I should know?

thanks for the info; never been, but the fishing fever is taking over my body!!

1. Yes plenty of stumps going north from the boat ramp. Pretty much idle only for me up that way.
2. when you get about 3/4 of the way up the entire upper end is covered in grass, there is grass our to 9' in most of the lake.
3. best to take something to eat, nothing close to the lake.
4. be careful running mid lake area between the overhead power lines, there are some big stumps just under the surface on the East side and a rock pile that is only a foot or two under the water on the west side past the cooling fans.

Coming out of the ramp DON'T run left (North) stumps everywhere. There is a path but I dont know it. Someone may chime in that does, saw a few guys last week run from all the way in the back out to the main lake part.

Hydrilla all over the lake. Get to a bank and start fishing. Find the holes and flip em and that'll get you a few bites. Edges are holding some too.

Not much to eat til you het back to Pittsburg. There's a Starmart on the road that takes you there but ive never been in it.

As far as anything else, be careful going down the hill to the ramp, not sure what the rain has done to it. The ramp is pretty bumpy until you get the whole truck and trailer fully on the ramp. There used to be two floaters in the middle closet to the right bank but i havent seen them lately.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

There will be more boats to maneuver than stumps

Heard it was muddy all the way to the day. It would be better to give it a week to clear up. Those fish dont get to see much muddy water on that lake. IMO

Anything else we should know? Is there anywhere the lake seems a little clearer?

I fished it monday and caught 40+ fish up to 4lbs. The lake had risen 2 ft from sunday night to monday 6am...there is muddy and clear water and it's spotty all over. Fish moving baits and have some fun.

You can always wait til it settles or you can go fish and have some fun....

thanks for all the info. would Monticello be in the same condition?

here is another question. in a cold water lake, I know when the best time for spawning fish. but in these warm water lakes, where the water temp may not get below 60, when do the fish spawn? I would assume mostly in January and February, but I guess it's more effected by the weather and whether or not the power plant is running?

I can't, we tried everything, and nothing worked well. Caught a few, but they were all on different patterns and locations on the lake. It is tough right now, and Welsh is the murkiest I have seen it. High pressure and blue birds today should be tough fishing. If it were me, I would cover as much water as I could. Maybe head north and see if I could get bit. It should be tough today.

You will have to bounce around to find clean water. Most of the dirty water will be north because that's where the runoff will be coming from. Like others posted, cover a ton of water and keep at it. Spinnerbaits and traps and chuck-n-wind....you will get bit.
