They are there already.. Limits coming out.. North of the air port launch is really shallow, but holding the most fish... But again, must have flat bottom.. South of the 59 bridge, it's a long haul to get too the good numbers of fish.. But good stringers coming from there too..

Thanks for the information Southtxangler22. How far down from 59 bridge do you have to go to find them?

Mostly artificial, and pretty much any artificial... From the bridge going south it can be as far as 6-8 miles.. You'll pick some up after about a mile or so.. But to really get some numbers you really gotta get down there.. North of the air port there's good numbers.. But hard to get too without a shallow running boat.

Saw on the 210 Facebook page that they are already catching good numbers. They mentioned the 59, 99, and airport ramps but I have never been down there so I don't really know what they are talking about.

Cbag1, airport ramp is approx 2 miles north of george west on hwy 281. 59 bridge is approx 3 miles east of george west on hwy 59. 99 bridge is on hwy 99 west of hwy 37 (whitsett area). Heading to 59 this weekend with boat then will try airport with canoe in next few weeks.

@tbud, most of the fish caught now are coming a couple miles north of the airport launch... If you launch a boat at 59 go down river at least 3 miles.. But all the way down to an old bridge was a good spot. Just takes awhile to get there.

Ton of people out there today. I went downriver about 7 miles from 59 where the water wasn't as muddy. Did OK, nothing special.

Caught around 20 this morning, slow morning, but the afternoon bite was on.. Cold front kind of shut them down.. Trolling rattle traps to find them, then casting all over where we got hits!

I went last year and launched form 59 and paddled aways upriver and we caught over 100 whites and crappie..that was in early March and the river was packed. Southtexas- would I be able to launch a kayak from airport ramp and make it upriver? I got off for Monday and Tuesday and had some friends bail on me. Im going fishing somewhere, come hell or high water..well maybe high water, but thats it...

went with the boy today--weather was great--fishing was slow--picked up 4 large males--one weighed 1.5 lbs--others on the river had the same results
It's good to laugh!

Drove up from corpus today and put in at 59. That was nuts, we were one the firsts ones there. There are a few boats were were not very inconsiderate. We only ended up with 3. If you did any better south of the bridge, congratulations, it was tough fishing. We ran all the way to the RV park and all the way north of the airport boat ramp. Thank you for all the advice people gave us. I think from now on we will put in at the airport boat ramp. I hope the boat we towed gets their boat repaired and get back to fishing.

Anyone with a backseat next Tuesday or Wednesday let me know I'll split the gas. Try this approach -- "You bring the $20,000 boat with paid yearly maintenance, repair, and paid licenses and I'll pay for ALL the gas and the food we eat that day".
You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free

I understand what a boat costs and all the work that goes into a trip but what's the point of belittling someone for asking if someone has a backseat. You act like I asked to go for free or something! I used to own a boat and I took plenty of others out for the exchange of just gas. Some did more others did less. Ignoring my comment would have been a lot easier and what not than acting like a giant bass! Trust me I get it and would do what was asked to join someone to fish! Sorry that I have kids and other bills with no room for a boat payment. Just had some extra money from Christmas and what not to try and get to fish!

So if I'm putting in at the 59 ramp I should drive the boat all the way down towards lake mathis till I hit the 151 bridge before I'll probably start catching whites? Thank you.

I wanna fish but since I don't have a boat will be limited to the bank. I like that u say shallow water. Once the run kicks in to full swing locating 3 to 6 ft of water, gravel bars, current breaks, and ambush points will be key factors in locating fish. Any help or advice is apreciated.

There's not much bank access at 59. Just what's under the bridge itself. There is much more at the airport launch, since it is also a county park. The best sandy bottom and rapids areas are up from the airport launch, but it is all private property north of the boat ramp itself.

The whites are already running, just not spawning.. I've caught them in all areas in the river. Fishing is way better during the hottest part of the day. Not a lot of bank access around there since the river is so high this year. Best to launch a boat at 59 and go all the way even south of the next bridge. Lots of big females down there but they are moving closer too the ramp every week. One of my best spots wasn't far from the ramp. You'll catch them every where on warmer day.

Will try Wed or Thur this week. Will be first trip of year. Plan to go north of airport. Probably have to pull over the sandbars. Same level as 2014. Usually go 1.5 - 3.5 mi up. Was too low last year. Fished out of 59. Caught fish into early April. Will post results by Friday. ..

Fished Friday, came up from the lake, picked up 15, mostly on the troll, never found them grouped up. Most boats we ran into had about the same luck.

Nice fish Fish Fear Me!! We have been out twice and have easily caught 140-150 fish for a group of 4. We only keep the large fish (13 inches and up). Hope this continues thru February.
Want to put my 2 cents in on an issue that is very upsetting. Both times that i have gone out, i have collected trash that careless people have left on the banks. Everything from lure packets, fishing line to beer cans have been picked up. This is very annoying to say the least. As outdoorsman we should really take care of the natural resources we have available. It is for this reason that we can no longer go and get permission from a land owner to enter a property to fish and hunt. I hope that the people who have been leaving this trash, read this message and take what i am saying to heart. If this is you, please pick up your trash. If it is not you, please help out and pick up as much trash as possible anyway. Thanks in advance for doing this. Enough of the soap box stuff. Lets get out and enjoy some fishing.

Wife and I kept 35 good ones today so guess we did good. About 1 in every 6-8 fish a keeper. Caught a bunch... Upper river changed a lot since all the floods. First trip out....probably be next week before we go again. Enjoy!

I am going to launch my kayak out of the airport ramp tomorrow and fish up river. I haven't only fished out of the 59 ramp before, but figure I would do some recon upriver tomorrow, and hopefully get on some fish. The weather is supposed to warm up too. How shallow is the water up that way? Just curious. Ill report tomorrow and let y'all know how it turned out.

I launched my kayak at the airport road ramp on Sunday. It was a cold start to the morning, but there was already 10 cars in the parking lot at 730am. I caught a total of 18 whites, all in the 8-10" range. I only caught two females that were fat. I released all fish. Majority of the fish were caught on 3" white grubs with road runner jig head. Caught a couple on a rattle trap. All fish were caught in the deep pockets around shallow water. I paddled up to the rapids and that is where most of my fish were caught. Lots of people on the water. I imagine with this warm weather for the next week, that could get some more fish up the river.

Never been to the nueces river. Where do you put in? Correct me if I'm wrong is it under the 59 bridge that crosses 37 or 281? I've got a small 2 person boat therefore I'd like to try some white bass action on that river. Does the river go all the way to choke canyon?

The river does down to Lake Corpus Christi, it does not go to Choke Canyon. The Frio flows from Choke Canyon.

Where do you all put in or launch your boat. I Have a small boat that I'll put to use. I've researched and it looks like theres a launch ramp at the live oak airport, and access at the 59 bridge.

Went to airport road and the park at the ramp for an evening fish off the bank. My better half wasn't feeling up for a two-mile paddle while suffering from allergies and such. But she was good with checking out a different spot accessible for kayaks. She caught four and I caught one from the bank within the last hour of light. All off spinners. Nearly every boat and kayak coming in had a big stringer. And many anglers said it's not running as great just yet. Time to schedule a paddling trip here soon now that I know what to expect.

Hey guys, I went to the Nueces for the first time. Its an awesome river. Well I didn't do well with the whities. I used tandom 1/8oz chartreuse jigs on the bottom line with white 2" curly tail. On the top I used a small 3" plastic jerk bait on a small #2 red hook, and didn't get one single bite. Question, is this a good combination to use on tandem rig. I made it all the way up river from live oak airport boat ramp, about 2 or 3 miles up river, to a hole where I saw a fly fisherman wading with what seem to be over a 100 fish on stringers. Any advice would be much appreciated. Also, how long do the fish stay up river? I plan on making a trip next weekend.

Another thing I'm curious about. How far are the rapids from the airport boat launch ramp? And from the last Island?

I'm not sure of the distance, couple miles. You will know you are at the Rapids. It is the furthest point small power boats can make it. You will see boats that are tied off and unmannd because most people get out and walk and bank fish that area. The paddle back was into a steady breeze, but it took me almost two hours.

Nice catch. What did you use to catchem on? Were you upriver? What time did you get them? I got a feeling most stringers are being taken early in the morning. When I got there Saturday by noon people had stringers.

Never seen that many cars at the airport this Saturday. Crowded but still places to fish. Started at 10:30 and limited by 4:30. Lots of small fish so it's good to cull if you have time. Flow and level has droped a bit over the month. About time for a little rain. USGS River Guage HWY 281 - Nueces River

Fisherman catching and having fun !! Then a good rain would come and turn the river to chocolate milk with a slight rise in water level. It would shut the bite down to a few fish here and there on sound type baits (like rattle traps). But my double jig recipe would'nt catch a fish. My buds and I would call this the Chocolate milk depression on the river. !! Depending on the amount of rain and location of run off,, it would sometimes take weeks for the water to turn to its normal color. Rio
My stringer is getting there!!

The Nueces is one of the few rivers that you don't want to get runoff during the run. It takes several weeks to clear up from one rise. Best to get good rains before the spawn to ensure enough baseflow.

Went Thursday from the airport ramp, all the way up to the rapids. Had them all to my self. Limited out by 13:00. All were caught on 3 inch sassy shads on a roadrunner head. Had an absolute blast. Had to drag over the sandy shallows, but it was worth it. only 6 out of 25 were females, all others were males. Took home a couple of catfish too. Gotta go back soon!

Went yesterday around noon and fished south again. Fish were still there but had a hard time getting them to bite. Once the wind died down in the evening the bite really turned on. Ended up with 45

Has anyone ever tried the "Float N Fly" technique to catch white bass. I've seen videos on the Float N Fly looks like it really works wonders. According to some of the experts it's a winter technique used to catch smallmouth bass, however they say it will work anytime of year for a variety of species. I bet the technique works well with white bass what do you all think?

Should work but there's only one real way to find out! I've got a technique that I Lear ed in the creeks up in Dallas area I'm dying to try down here but have no boat and don't know if sitting under the bridge after a 2 hr drive is worth it. I need a boat and to fish. Sighs.
Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.

Never tried it and not really sure what it is. Would have liked to tried it on Friday. High water and mud = NO FISH. First skunk of the year. Not sure how long it takes to recover but nothing we tried for six hours drew even the slightest hit....

So has anyone been back yet? We will try again tomorrow. Water level and flow is back to where it was before the rain and it warmed up again. This may be the last trip, more rain coming next week. I'm a believer on that now.

I would give it a try. It may still be a little off color but you can probably find areas that are fairly clear like around the riffles.
Just one more cast!

Tried it yesterday. Lucky to find 10"ers for the stringer. Tons of tiny whites but none over 10.5". Found em super shallow about as far north as you can go from airport without dragging your kayak for a long while on the rocks.

Had the river almost to ourselves. Five yaks and we were the only motor boat. With only one truck in the lot at 930 we were not encouraged....however, after dragging up as far as we could go and working back we got 2 limits from 11 to 3. About half big females, some over 15". None gravid, all have dropped their eggs. Gar and carp are showing up. Guess it's about over. Water still dirty but fishable where running.

Thanks for the reports fellas. Im just glad I got a part of it this year for the first time. Sounds like I won't make it back out there, but I will be at Braunig and Cali frequently the next few months.
