Just got the high speed model in yesterday. Flushed the spool bearings and cleaned all the grease from around the handle knob bushings. Added one small drop of royal purple synfilm oil to the bearings. It remonds me of the old curado 100b reels as far as the small amount of gear noise and the way it handles. Zero play in the frame, as far as I can see and I know a lot of guys don't care for the composite frame but to be honest with u, I like it as much as I do my I series curados. Good smooth cast and has a good drag system, a steal at 119. Gonna take it out on the lake tomorrow and will update the on the water performance tomorrow night.

Had mine since Black Friday, love it. Easily competes with other brands upper end reels, especially for the price. Throw mine with 12lb fluoro for shakeyheads & finesse jigs. Paired with ducker ghost 6'10" medium. Lightest combo I have.

After fishing this reel on 5 trips, I must say I'm impressed. Smooth casting, comfortable and just outright tough. I would not hesitate to buy another one if I didn't already have too many dang reels. Definitely the best newer reel I've EVER fished with in that price range.

Turtdogg,

A very good review on your part . . . thanks!

LakeForkGuy publishes a nice series of videos on YouTube and he also gives the Casitas a very strong review.

The material used in the reel, Ci4+, is the same that is used in my Stradic Ci4+ spinning reel and I love it for its strength and super lightness.

I think I saw where someone picked one up for $99 and here it becomes a point of interest. For anyone who can care for their reels themselves, doing normal maintenance, everything is the same. But, for someone who pays a professional to clean them, quality reels like this one have dropped down in price so low that it is almost to the point where you could use one for a couple of seasons, with minor maintenance and cleaning, and it would simply be more cost effective to sell or give it away, then get another new one.

Anyway, LakeForkGuy and others say this reel casts very well. He shows making a pretty hard cast without feathering the line with his thumb, no back lash, favorably compares its appearance and low profile to the Aldebran which is 4X more expensive. No, he says, not as good, but much closer than he'd have guessed.

I'd be interested in knowing how you set the brakes, anything you have done, if different, with the spool tension.

Brad

The braking system is basically the same as the curado I series and the Chronarch ci4, only the brakes in mine are white and shaped a little different. I've got 2 of the brakes on, and the other 2 off. Spool tension is set loose enough to get maximum speed but no spool wobble. And the outer adjustment on the palm side is set at 2 and I have zero issues with backlash.
