How many of y'all switch out props for this time of year? After running some good size rollers these past couple weeks, do y'all do anything special? I'm still learning how to drive my cougar. She keeps impressing me by keeping the nose up. Just slightly scary about not having much power to get up on plain. Thinking about trying a merc 4blade on my Yamaha hpdi. Has anyone found any trick for running big water and running it faster? These 15-30mile runs in waves gets old.

P.s. My tip is also to make sure your trolling motor is secure! I run twin braces on my foretrex along with 2 straps.

I run a 26 Fury year round on my Cougar, and have a troll Tamer on my fortrex. Never a problem running big water.

Ditto, Cougar FTD/Merc 250. I ran a 24 Fury on a 200 VMAX on my Pantera III and it ran better than the Yamaha 25M.

Do either of y'all run hydraulic plates? Where do y'all put it to get up on top? Seems like these boast get heavy quick in a tournament. 52gallons of gas and a full livewell. I thought about a 4 blade but I might look for a 25p tempest plus so I can adjust the vents

It's a trade off usually. Most 4 blade props will get a better "bite" in big water with big waves.

But if the water is smooth grab that 3 blade prop and put the hammer down

I have a ZX20 with a 250 SHO. I change my prop only when I have too. You will notice a difference in handling.

As far as the hydraulic jacket plate, I have a Atlas. Plate all the way up and trim all the way down. It will jump out of the water. Just make sure to lower your plate once you are on plane so you get good water pressure

I have an Atlas plate, and like WmSmith I run it up for holeshot if I have a heavy load, and I tweak it on the fly when I run a go-fast prop, but I don't really change anything in rough water since it's usually low anyway.

I would try a Fury before you buy the Tempest. Fury is a very good prop.

I've been on Rayburn a couple of times when it was somewhat rough, and my normal set-up handled it fine. I'm not in a hurry on any lake when it gets rough.

I run a 27P with water 70 and below and a 26P above 70.

As far as trolling motor get a T-H Marine Troll-Tamer Trolling Motor Locking System and you are good to go

Yea I understand this. I'm stating from a general census of boats I've fished in or drove. Only 27p I know of is on the back of a champion with a 12" bobs and 300xs merc. All the plugs removed. I believe a lot of people are not carrying as large of tournament load as well as not the size of me. 6'6" 280#

He runs a basscat Eyra with 250 SHO. He had plenty of torque in that motor for what he runs. And that boat hits 80 no problem (not in 4' of course)

Yea there's something about that eyra hull. I learned a 26p sho prop is to large for the cougar ftd with twin poles and a full load. Or we think it's the prop. Havnt ran is since. The sho is an very impressive motor.
