First off I have never woke up and decided I would go after crappie. This is new to me and I need help.

Spent Christmas Eve on limestone. The weather pattern for the day was: no wind smooth as glass with heavy fog. Followed by overcast and a stiff wind that caused small whitecaps. Then ended with the sun shining and a light breeze. We used jigs only (bait shops were closed) and fished water from 3' to 30' deep. All fishing was done around structure. We used the whole tackle box and never got a single bite for 5 hours. I had to fall back to catfishing just to keep the boat from being skunked.

I need help and am open to ideas.

You need to go out with someone that knows the ropes and can show you what to do. If you want to be a crappie fisherman then forget the other kinds of fish and concentrate on crappie. Take your skunking and learn from it.
Video's and books will shorten the learning time.

Study this forum. There's lots of info here and on youtube.

I can usually put a few in the boat. But a couple of years ago I subscribed to Daniel Eggertsen's email letter. He sends it out every few days with tips and tricks for crappie fishing. Some of it is silly but I've picked up a few things from it. He's a bubbly character that has a weird sense of humor but he is a crappie addict.

Limestone can be a very tough lake for crappie, especially in the winter. With this weather pattern and water temps near 60, a lot of people are having difficulty. When Stone is at normal level like now, for every tree you see, there are 10 more you can't see. And for every 50 trees, maybe 1 or 2 will hold fish. As Ernest said, try to find someone who can show you where to fish and how to fish jigs. Good luck fish
