I got home from yesterday's family gathering pretty late, so wasn't on the water until almost 9:00 this morning. It was barely over 50 degrees then, but warmed up quickly to turn into shirt sleeve weather this afternoon. The winds stayed light all day, blowing from the north early, then switching around to pretty much every direction, before settling in from the southeast this afternoon. With the rain, then cold, coming, I figured I'd get in one more trip in the nice weather.

I quit and headed for home right after I landed my 25th keeper. Several fish were just small keepers, but most were truly nice crappie. If anyone had told me I could catch a limit of crappie on Christmas Day, I would have told them it would happen on Palestine, not Cedar Creek. You just never know.

Some of the fish were suspended on concrete, but the best bite was on a simple drop-off, with no discernable cover other than the fish that were holding it. It's a reminder to never ignore a drop-off that's showing fish on it. They were 13 to 14 feet deep, tight up against the drop-off, which dropped from 11 to 18 feet of water. They bit the same two jig rig I've been using lately. The small 1/32 or 1/24 oz jig on top was best, but the 1/8 oz jig below it got bit well, too. I cleaned three of the fish, and released the rest.

Two well worn jigs, and one of their admirers.

I got surprised by a couple of blue cats today, too.

Nice Christmas catch!!

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

Oops, I didn't mention water clarity, did I? It's still pretty muddy at Tom Finley. From Power Line Cove on down, it's cleared quite a bit, but still not back to its usual water color. They just issued a flash flood watch for the next couple of days though, so here comes more mud.
