We're pulling the camper down to Pines Tuesday Evening. We have the spot reserved through January 3rd. Has anyone fished over the last few days?

I'm wondering if the Crappie have moved out deep and setup on their normal winter pattern there. With the lake over 8 feet high and more rain in the forecast, I'm a bit concerned that the trip might not be as good as it has been in the past.

Any information on current conditions would be appreciated.

Thank You.

I'd like to know also. Thinking about a trip after Christmas.

Water temp on main lake Friday was 58-60 and we didn't do good at all. Made me feel better when we got to ramp and other guys I talked to didn't fair much better. But some guys in the last week or so have found them and posted about their success on here.

Thanks for the reply. Was the water dirty in the main lake where everyone fishes during the winter? It sounds like the temps still need to drop before it gets good. That's what I was afraid of.

You just have to find them on brush piles in about 30 fow. They aren't thick enough to do well drifting.

Thanks Medic. Guess I'll be doing more graphing than I usually do. I'm trying to move my humminbird waypoints over to lowrance as I type so I have some of my marked brush piles on the new HDS 9 graph.

I'll be fishing tomorrow rain or shine as long as the lightning stays away.

I lied about fishing rain or shine. :-)

Woke up this morning and the wind was brutal. Lots of white caps out there. I did see two boats on the lake, but we decided to take the kids to the trampoline park in Tyler.

Planning to hit it in the morning. Will try to post a report in the next couple of days.

Fish behind the dam.

Set your slip cork at about 17 feet.

I drove over there a couple of times Wednesday and Thursday to see what was happening. There were a few being caught, but I didn't see many. There were a lot of people lined up down the bank and I was able to see how they were catching. I thought about putting my 21 foot boat in, but never made my mind up. grin

I did fish Thursday morning. The weather was great, but the Crappie haven't migrated into the deeper water yet. I spent a lot of time graphing some of my waypoints and didn't see many fish. So, I'll have to search to see if I can find some new piles that are holding fish.

We came home Thursday evening for Christmas with the family. We're planning to head back down tomorrow and I might put my boat in below the spillway and fish away from the crowd.

I'll update the thread with results if I'm able to figure something out lakeside or spillway side.

I finally gave up and drug the camper home today before all the rain started. I fished the lake a couple of hours yesterday afternoon without any success. The wind was terrible.

So, I'm going to wait a couple of weeks to see what all this crazy weather does.
