I am debating on making the drive down to Corpus this week. I lucked out and have a couple days off... I have a 20 foot long, 72 inch wide flat bottom boat with a new 115 Yamaha on the back.. I am looking to hook up to some Kings, Mahi or Reds... This is my first initial trip to Corpus on the boat and I am coming from San Antonio. Any insight on local oil rigs or what to expect would be awesome. Not looking for coordinates to your honey hole but any advice or tips is awesome!

Im not sure they'll be much action on the kings and mahi this time of year. If I remember correctly that action tapers off toward the end of Sept. Maybe october since it was warm this fall.

They're may be some bull reds left around the jetties. Drift a live or crab or dead pogey along the rocks in 12-20ft on an outgoing tide and hold on tight. 5/0 circle and a couple ounces of lead should do the trick.

There are some reds yet around the jetties, and the sheepshead are starting to be caught regularly as they gather on the rocks. Flounder are also off and on. Kings and Mahi are too far offshore to reach, for the most part, but I did see some jacks around the other day so a very stupid king is a slight outside possibility if you hit it just right. Offshore is just a tough gig as the water cools.

Plenty of trout n' reds and keeper flounder in the back bays being strung and put on the table for supper.

Kings and Mahi are long gone until next Spring. If you are in flat bottom boat, I would stick to the bays.

The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.
