When I first moved to NY in June 2014 I was in awe of the pristine lakes and rivers they had. The summer was so hospitable to me and my PA12 but it was short lived by the harsh winter and my lack of knowledge for the extremely cold water. We don't have winters like that in Texas. I have a profound respect for mother nature and rarely push the limits of my abilities to negotiate our passion safely. So I posed the question in one of their forums so I could speed my learning curve. I thanked those of them who were helpful in providing good insight rather than trying to scare me off like most. With the mild winter this year I have had the best fishing since i've been here! For those still out on the water, take care out there.

I hope this video serves as a tool to help others that may have the same question that I had a year ago.

Tight Lines and stay safe on the water!
Mark

Good video Mark! I fished a kayak tournament in Jamaica Bay, New York years ago and was envious of how warm those guys stayed in the coldest weather and water with those full body suits. Living in south Florida at the time, I went with just a dry top and hard booted chest waders. Not the ideal outfit as if I'd ever gone in the water for any length of time I would have gotten soaked, but it has worked out great for what it was.

Just went through the whole process of looking for something that would work for the coming years and went with a pair of zippered waders. With so many folks down here hunting during the coldest months, its easier to justify the expense. My thoughts are that I already have a dry top for the coldest days, just need something that I can take a whizz from without going back to shore or putting myself at risk of having to undo everything in kayak. I can wear the waders on all but the hottest days and use different type tops... dry top in the winter, lightweight storm top in the summer to repel rain. Can change different foot gear for hunting or fishing. Thank you Santa.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.
