I have donated tackle but never heard of them earning money. I have a day job for about 4. Needs to be done on a weekend.

They win money in the SE HS Fishing tournaments...I'm sure there's no problem with hiring a few kids to work for you on the weekend. No different than hiring some ag kids to help you do something. You're not hiring the fishing team.....you're just hiring kids on the weekend.

Good Luck with that, I offered to give a club about $300 of baits, both hard baits and plastics, too come and help with yard work and clean the shop, also threw in the entry for one tournament for the club and $50 per member that showed up and Grilled Burgers for lunch. Got two calls, one from a San Antonio Club and one from Houston, both were a good haul to do it. There are several Clubs near me and not one wanted to do it. It seems most just want it given to them and not earn it.

Don't get me wrong, I am a BIG supporter of the HS Fishing, we even give a $500 Scholarship for Big Fish at the Lake Fork Open every year.

Our world is quickly filling with BRATS sporting a sense of self-entitlement beyond comprehension. Wise contributors/supporters should tie community-service stipulations to donation activity to make them earn the honor of the donation/support by helping others in return. If they fail to do that - poof, the support vanishes. Some of them need lessons they missed earlier in life when mom was too busy making sure everyone got a trophy.

I have one working for me as we speak. He is doing a great job. His boat captain brought him out this morning and said keep him until we are finished. He will leave with more stuff than he can fish with in a year.

One young man work better by himself and will get more done without a buddy. Just my 2cents on that.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

At Lake Fork the bigger tournament always had trouble finding "fish runners'. People to carry the fish from the weigh in site to the live release boat. Not anymore.

Now they hire whole schools' teams and if none are available the FFA kids.

When I was a teen if we wanted something we found some kind of work and saved up. Sometimes our parents would pitch in and help us pay for whatever we were saving for at the time.

In case people have not noticed, a lot children are not raised the same as they were 30+ years ago. Today they are taught whatever they do is just good enough.

A lot of today's youth were not taught the concept of failure. Which I see both sides of the issue. Parents did not want to have their children get hurt feelings so some made sure even if their kids totally failed they thought they succeeded. The flip side is mommy and daddy will not be able to protect them from the world forever. The world is not a kind place for young adults if they are not prepared to succeed in the real world.

Most kids these days expect whatever they want when they want it and most parents do whatever they have to get them whatever they want. Even if it means asking for donations and freebies.

I donate a lot of stuff to kids fishing, just gave away $1000+ of excess tackle I had a couple weeks ago that will go to some high schoolers.

But honestly a little hard work never hurt anyone and perhaps a lot of these kids should have to work a little to gain a little...
