Starting to hear people say that a large percentage(like 80%) of the striper washed over the spillway. This seems very hard for me to believe.

Would appreciate comments on this. Is what I am hearing actually possible? If so, Big Tex is gonna be tough for a while but should have some BIG fish in a relatively short amount of time.

Think about it a minute. A 150 mile long lake and 80% of the fish crowd in the 300 yards in front of the spillway. There would be millions and millions of dead fish floating due to lack of oxygen. This always floats around in every flood. Noticed as the lake settles out a lot more stripers showing up here on the forum.

Yes, many did go over the spillway, but as mentioned, an 86,000 Acre lake, cannot spill that many fish. It is really the Impact a Huge Rise and Fall and Rise again, have of the fish, and the clarity or lack or clarity in the water. JMO. in 2007 it went way over the spillway as well, and there is no way we could have the amount of fish we still have in the lake today, if 80% was the case.. Old Wives tell.... from folks that stay on the shore, and look.

If you've been on the lake you'll see a 10 feet vertical line of bait fish all over the lake. The stripers have way too much natural food to eat to be messing with anything you throw at them. Right or wrong, that's my wishful thinking anyway.

As I have explained in a few posts that just don't stay up very long water conditions have everything to do with it and yes please believe they all went over the spillway and go somewhere else :-) :-) :-) I havebeen doing just fine the last couple of months it was a rough summer again due to poor water quality stripers really dislike this and a lot of mud which is still a problem you have to run from the mud. But I have really enjoyed having the lake to myself so yes they all went down the spillway and there are none left :-)

They didn't all go over the spillway obviously. But we pulled thousands of them out below the dam this summer, with A LOT of BIG FISH!! Before we got all the rain you could go down below the dam and see them by the thousands sitting in the hole near the generators. So obviously there are still fish in the lake, but contrary to what some say the flood had a HUGE impact on the lake and only time will tell how bad it's really going to be! Luckily the lake is FULL of bait so it shouldn't take long to get a good population back....

I'm gonna miss her....
