With some of us switching to Garmin recently I thought a thread to help each other out would be good.

Tip: Lance Vick Boat Lanes - You can download the Lowrance version in usr format, then convert to gpx for Garmin for free at http://www.gpsvisualizer.com. I got the Rayburn and Toldeo Bend files. Toledo Bend was perfect, Rayburn was mostly good, the track segments weren't perfect as end of segment would track back to start of next segment, so a bunch of straight lines over land.

Tip: You can save data from newer Lowrance units as gpx, so no conversion required. Garmin accepts gpx or adm file formats for waypoints and tracks.

Problem: My personal tracks from Lowrance and also the Boat Lanes Rayburn track had problem segments didn't end the track, end of track would then draw straight line even across line to start of next segment. I have no idea why it does this, the Boat Lanes Toldeo file didn't do this.

Problem: All the tracks show on the screen, not an easy way like Lowrance to select or deselect a trail to view. I just read online you should be able to not see the track under the color selector, but haven't tried yet.

Problem: On default settings so far the structure scan doesn't show fish, bait, and bottom composition clearly as Lowrance on default. Has anyone played with the structure settings?

7608xsv. I'm really liking it, the touch screen is nice I haven't had any issues selecting what I want etc. I'm kind of wishing I would have gone with a bigger screen, but the 8" is the largest that will fit flush in the 2011 Ranger 520.

Tip: Clark taught me this, but after I had already bought the 7608. Buy one of the adjustable console mounts so you can get as large of screen as you want, you can tilt for glare, you can have screen sit higher than steering wheel, and you can easily remove unit at night.
