I spent about four and a half hours on the lake today. It was 35 degrees when I launched this morning, but at least the north winds stayed light all morning. I usually fish the mid to upper lake, but everything was so muddy that I headed for the lower lake this morning. It wasn't as muddy as the rest of the lake, but the water still had a real brown tinge to it. Water temps were 57 degrees.

I ended up with 10 keepers, and 5 of them were really nice fish. I cleaned 6, and split the filets among two quart zip-loc bags. You know when the filets from 6 fish are enough for two meals, you've cleaned some nice crappie. Of the 6 I cleaned, 5 had eggs.

I caught the fish 13 to 14 feet deep, in 14 to 23 feet of water. They all bit my homemade plastic shad baits, in a purple/chartreuse color. I was fishing a two jig rig, with a 1/8 oz jig on the bottom, and a 1/32 oz jig above it. They bit one about as well as the other, with half the fish coming on each.

Nice fish and good post.

If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life,
there'd be a shortage of fishing poles

GOOD JOB Bud B thumb I drove west over the 334 Gun Barrel bridge today around 4:30 and there was an accident in the East bound lane between Big Chief and Tom Finley boat ramp that had the traffic backed up to the second bridge.Just like you said That part of CC sure was muddy looking!

Bud, glad to see you connecting with them. Sounds like the dark blue color is still working.

Woody, I would have probably checked with you to see if you wanted to come along, but honestly, I didn't think I'd catch a thing. By this time last year, I couldn't scare up any crappie at all on Cedar Creek. Plus, the lake is so muddy right now.

There really seems to be a late fall pattern going on right now, rather than a winter pattern, though. It sounds like the same thing is happening at Palestine, with the winter bridge bite being hit and miss, and those who have good late fall brush piles finding a more dependable bite. I guess it makes sense if you think about it. Last year, we had a lot of cold weather in November. Even though the weather was mild in December, the water was still colder than this year. This year, we haven't had hardly any cold weather at all.

I was out for a little while on mid lake last Saturday, too, just before the flood. I caught 7 keepers and a 14 pound blue cat. Those fish were 14 feet deep, too. Three of the keepers were really big crappie. I cleaned five, and four of those had eggs. That's kind of how late fall fishing seems to go for me on Cedar Creek. I can't seem to catch too many fish, but get some really nice ones.

I don't mind that kind of fishing at all. As long as I catch a few, I will enjoy the day. And my freezer is getting well stocked enough, I may just keep putzing around Cedar Creek even after the late fall bite dies off, just to see what's going on. Who knows, with the lake full, maybe there will be some winter creek fish to be found. I've lived here a little less than two and a half years now. I still work full time and spend a bunch of hours riding a bicycle, and so my time on the water is limited, and I'm still learning the lake.

Last Saturday's 14 pound blue cat.

No problem Bud, just glad you got out a bit. Actually I'm sitting here in beautiful southern California, watching it rain and wishing I was out on CCL! I'm glad to hear that you got out and found a few.
