For the guys throwing these baits what rod(s) are you using? Also is it better to have a faster action or a more moderate action for this size of bait? I realize that actions are not consistent between the manufacturers so I guess I want to know if it's good to have more or less whip when loading and which will allow the bait to act properly.

I use a Champion series Dobyns 806 HSB. I think this is a good fit for that bait but I don't have much to compare it to. I have only used that rod to throw one. There might be a better option out there but the 806 gets the job done

I throw them with a Dobyns 805. Got this years ago for deep cranks like the DD22's before there even was such thing as a 10XD. This rod leans towards the heavy side to me for the regular deep cranks like the DD22 and works well for the 10XD also(to me). I even throw some light/medium swimbaits on the 805. I can neither purchase nor carry a rod for every single bait in my boxes and the 805 does real well for all these for me. Good luck.

typically an 8ft Med/Med or Med/Fast works well for the larger crank baits. 2 things are important. Make sure you have a larger spooled reel and you want a 5:3:1 or 5:1 reel for it.....these in combination with an 8ft rod will seal the deal. Typically good cranking rods are glass so keep that in mind. You want them to have a faster tip than you normally would use to aid in casting distance. Dobyns make great rods and you can't go wrong with them. If you are interested in something custom, give www.trinitycustomrods.com a look. We'd be glad to make you something that you would love!!!

I use the halo extra deep cranking rod. It's a 8' rod matched with a 5.3 gear ratio reel. I like the set up.

Castaway has a specific crankbait rod model geared toward the super-heavy crankbaits such as the 10XD. I have one and find it a good match. They created this one as they found their DD22 rod din't have the proper backbone when the lure weight increased.

I picked one of those up this last year and like it a lot. It's in the Skeleton line of Cast-Away. SKX-XDD. Throws the 10xd pretty well.

Try a Falcon Lowrider XD Cranker. It's 7'9" and was built for big baits like the 6th Sense Crush 500DD, 8XD and 10XD

This rod is awesome, I purchased one a few months ago and it's one of the best cranking rods I have ever fished.
