I've always used Gamakatsu hooks but have problems with them bending. Should I switch hook brands/are Mustads or Owners any better? Thanks!

I've never had a problem with Gamagatsu. I use the 2/0-5/0 wide gap,g-lock- and the ewg with no problems for 8 years now. I've rolled points on Trokar, bent all the h20 express and haven't had a problem with Mustad or owner. well i have bent a gamagatsu... i pulled up a brush pile with two cinder blocks attached to it and it bent outward..

In my mind, gama's are the best hooks out there. I use the regular ewg's on almost everything but they make a stouter superline hook.

That's good to hear about Gama , I had two owners bend straight out and had one break in two right at the eye . I have been throwing the same owner hook for 20 years . I may have got a bad batch but I thought I would try something different

I like Gamakatsu Swivel hooks for drop shotting.

I had one though, as Brad Hardt also mentioned, that oddly broke at the eye. I think I saved it; if so, I'll take a snapshot of it. It is really odd and about 45 or so degrees of the eye's circumference metal . . . is just gone.

It was a small drop shot hook, a size 1 or 1/0 as I recall, and it was tied to Seaguar Invizx 8 lbs. fluorocarbon. No giant bass involved; I discovered it after pulling in about a 2.5 lbs. LMB.

Go figure. I still like them, though.

Brad

Me, too. Gama bends a lot easier than Owner.

If you're using gama use the superline gama. They won't bend.

I have had the same problems with both Gama & Owner that have been stated here. I have tried & liked Trokar & have not had the problems stated other than COST (stock up now at TW's 40% off sale). That being said, I gave these guys a try & haven't had one issue.

The fish I catch fight as hard as stumps, though. I'm giving it a true test for tensile strength.

Just depends on wire diameter. They both have hooks designed for heavier lines. Any owner with XXX is a good hook. Comparable to gama superline
