Heading up to Gibbons Creek on Friday. I've never been there before. Thought about going there earlier in the year and just never have made it. Does anyone have any advice they wouldn't mind sharing regarding either bass fishing or running the lake? Thanks very much, and I'll post a report on my trip.

Fished out there the 5th my partner and I caught all our bass on a blue and white spinnerbait, Fishing close to the bank By the levee for the train tracks. We also caught them on sumerged trees and stumps in about 3' of water.

Are you trying to make us jealous? Well, you did just that! Seriously, I hope you whack 'em. I've never been there so I can't help.

I recall reading that Gibbons Creek had declined to the point it wasn't worth burning the gas to trailer a boat there. Anyone got any comment/feedback on that? I haven't been in a decade and would like to know if I should still go elsewhere....

I had to search, myself. It's near College Station.

It hasn't been a good fishery in years since the grass is all gone. You can still catch some but its a grind

It seems to be hit or miss sometimes ill catch 20 fish with a mixture from 10" to 17" long other times ill go out there and catch 5 fish all undersized. There is grass you just got to know where to find it. Also watch out for submerged stumps on the north end of the lake.

This KATS AOY would probably dispute those claims:

Looks like a cold front coming thru later this week so you will probably see cold and muddy water after all these recent rains. I haven't fished the lake for a couple of weeks but I would expect a pretty tough bite on Friday under these conditions. Good luck and let us know how you do!

I've been fishing the lake for a few years since moving to Bryan. Can't say if it has declined because I don't have anything to reference. The grass is not all gone. It is a power plant lake and has multiple grass species year round. Most of the fish I catch are healthy. Caught one over 7 this spring and hear reports of folks catching good fish in the 7-9 lb range.

The front's coming through tomorrow, Thursday morning, so I hope by Friday afternoon at least the bite will come back somewhat, although sky will be bluebird all day. Water temps should be fairly unaffected being a powerplant lake, right?

Gibbons is still good. But it definitely is a hit or miss. They will absolutely stack up like crazy in some areas though.

It all depends on how much hot water they are pumping and where you are fishing on the lake. There are times when they aren't producing power at all so they aren't pumping much hot water.
