Took advantage of the mild weather we have been experiencing and try my luck at the local strip mine lake.
Cloudy and temps in the high 40's. Water temp was 45 and lake was a foot above normal pool with all the
rain we have had this fall. Thought I would share my experience with you all.

Illinois??? This is the Texas Fishing Forum! You need to move south!

Where in Illinois you from? I grew up in the Chicago area. Fished the Fox Chain of Lakes as well as some small strip mine lakes in the suburbs.

Liked fishing Little Grassy and Devils Kitchen lakes in the spring and summer.

Why move South when the weather has been great for December!

Besides every time I visit Texas it rains or has record breaking cold.
Have fished locals ponds in the Dallas area, White Rock, Bethany Park Ponds and
Bachman Lake. Also fished Lake Fork a couple times and Rayburn too.

Just need to find more time to fish instead of working.

I live Southwest of Peoria where there are numerous strip mine lakes and fish
a couple local bass clubs. Started fishing the BFL's in the Great Lakes
Division ( Pools 7,8,9 & 10 Mississippi River & Wolf River Chain).

I hope you enjoyed the YouTube videos too. Takes some time to go thru
4 hours of video to get the good shots.

Got a Gopro last year and starting to use it more now. I got brave a while back and use it for some underwater footage.

Go fish Clinton Lake and tell me how good the fishing is in Illinois in December.
Years ago I fished a Central Illinois Tournament Association tournament on Clinton where they had to give everyone their money back cause no one caught a keeper!!
Illinois is probably the worst bass fishing state east of the Mississippi.

I weighed in 22 pounds on Clinton and came in 2nd place my first time fishing there. Pretty simple lake with hot water discharge. Southern Illinois is the bassiest part of the state with Crab Orchard(muddy), Kinkaid(highland/grass), and Lake of Egypt(powerplant). There's numerous other lakes that have motor restrictions that receive less pressure as well.

P.S. Everyone knows Ohio is the armpit of the bass world!

That's why I don't fish Clinton Lake unless I have a tournament there.

But it has really improved the last few years from what it used to be.

Our club had 26 teams fish there in late April about 15 years ago.
There were a total of 2 fish weighed in that day. And that was when it used
to be a 12" limit.

The Illinois River used to be the place to fish for bass until the Asian
"Flying" Carp to over.

Lots a lakes in the Central Illinois Area to fish. Ever fish Lake Shelbyville?

Supposed to be one the top lakes in the state but not for me. eeks

Shelbyville is a solid lake but Texas has spoiled me. My best day in Illinois not even close to a average day in Texas.

Lived in Chicago for 4 years
Bass fishing & golf sucks up there
Traded my boat for a snow blower
Traded my golf clubs for a big winter coat
Anything North of Springfield Missouri sucks
