Thinking about upgrading my reels, been using Academy's H20 mettle reels, They have been pretty good reels but wanted to upgrade, just wondering about the lews BB1 speed spools, I see them on e-bay for around 125.00. This is about the price range I am looking for, what other reels in this range would you reccomend? thanks.

Shimano Citica I

I HIGHLY suggest that you save a few extra dollars and get the Citica I. It's pretty much a $220 reel but for a fraction of the cost. Shimano has revamped the Citica for this year and it's a heck of reel for the price. Such a super smooth retrieve and it's gone back to the lightweight metal feel. It feels sturdier than the previous model. It's an awesome reel and you won't regret buying it, I promise.

I'm left-handed but I'd go with the IGH model. I feel it's easier to slow down than to speed up. But that's just me.

Shimano Casitas for $120, same frame as Aldebaron but different material. Best reel on the market for UNDER $150. Citica if you will spend 150.

You cant go wrong with Shimano or Lews. I have BB1's and they work great. Great inexpensive reel

I can't say enough positive things about my Shimano reels. I own 7 from a 20 year old Chronarch Super Free to core's and new chronarch ci4+s

I own a Abu Garcia Revo S as well.

Limited experience but I don't think you can go wrong with Shimano.

Gregg,

LakeForkGuy has a very nice video where he reviews the Shimano Casitas, a just over $100 reel.

Worth a watch.
