Love catching cold water smallmouth and might be heading up to Murray pretty soon to mess around with some fall/ winter smallmouth. As far as deep water techniques, what are your favorite ways to catch smallmouth? Dropshot? Blade baits? Would love to hear any feedback!

Don't assume they are all deep. A downsized 1/2 football jig and a drop shot are good places to start.

I started targeting Smallmouth several years ago an jerkbait is my favorite choice also. But use the techniques you have most confidence in. I think that will help u have a more successful trip.

Storm Thunderstick Deep

I grew up fishing Pickwick Lake and during the Fall and Winter, there is no substitute for the Thunderstick. Period. These jerkbaits got pushed aside by all of the Lucky Craft Pointers and the Megabass Vision 110's but they still work. They have a unique action that Smallmouth just can't resist. I promise that you'll catch a mess of Smallies with this jerkbait. All colors are good, just make sure it has chartreuse in it. DEFINITELY DON'T THROW THE FIRE TIGER COLOR! (Hint Hint)

Man, that lake is a blast to fish! Pickwick flies under the radar for the most part. Other TVA lakes like Guntersville, Kentucky/Barkley Lakes, Chickamauga, and Wheeler seem to over-shadow Pickwick and I don't know why. My grandparents just recently sold their lake house that they've had since '98 and it hurt my heart. But they're getting too old to take care of it so I understand. I promised them that I will keep the legacy going by buying a lake house on Pickwick. And I will when I get the first chance. Let me know if you need any pointers for the lake itself or the surrounding area. It's a fun lake with A LOT of memories! The banner days of 100+ fish still don't come close to the memories of family time though. I hope you enjoy the lake as much as I did/do.
