My boat trailer is needing some attention. It's needs to be repainted. I was looking at doing the bed liner. A brand called durabak has a dark blue that would match the boat. Any opinions on this?

Is it channel iron or tube?, if tube bed liner coat will only hide future structural problems and may actually increase corrosion by holding moisture in. Can't go wrong with tractor/implement paint, tractor supply and attwoods both have their own brands, stuff is tuff as nails, won't chip off getting sandblasted down the road.

It's tube but paint or the bed liner would do the same as hiding correct? If it rust under the bed liner wouldn't it do the same under the paint?

Rust or corrosion will come through and bubble the paint giving you a warning of places you may need to re-inforce your tube trailer in the future, bed liner will just hide it, could result in a failure during trailering which you do not want. If a tube style trailer typically rust from the I side out then it wouldn't hurt to bed liner it? Not much can fix the inside

Ive been wanting to do the same thing to my boat trailer. what is the manufacture of your trailer? mine is Roadmaster and is made out of C channel.My fenders are pretty rusty and little beat up from blow outs and hitting deer. Let us know what u decide to do, I'm courious how the bed liner will do. Would have to get your trailer sandblasted I'm sure.

Urethane bed liner material is a solid paint over replacement for an upgrade easy and with less required time.

Reprinting a trailer can be very expensive and time consuming. Your trailer is like it gets shot with a 12 gauge and #6 shot behind your truck at 50'. It gets all pocked and it requires a lot of sanding to strip, striping the new paint is not easy and most don't have a Bugler striping tool, let alone skill to use it. Then you have new bunks you will want, new lighting, frame harness wiring, lighting that was bad, the list goes on... A good PPG or color automotive style primer, paint and clear coats cost alone about $500 or better. Quotes on repaints and rebuilds generally can run above $2,000 for a quality job.

They have a Great point on the tube frame also. We have seen many invest bucks in a tube frame to have it break and rust internally a year or three down the road. Tube custom frames have come and gone 3-4 times in the last 40 years. "Tex" and Ken Mitchell broke themselves trying to customer service RoadMaster tube frames with channel when they rusted out in the late 1970's and early 1980's. RoadMaster, Mark IV, DriDock, SpringTrail and more all have come and gone due to rusting tube frames. They look cool new but we use our stuff and heat, cool, humidity and continual exterior climates take their toll onthe internal hidden tube areas.

Be sure you check your frame before you start.

I have done several trailers with bed liner over the past five years. I would have the trailer sandblasted. Remove and replace the damaged fenders. Apply a good quality metal prep then paint with a good epoxy primer. Put the bed liner over the primer. I would get the bed liner from an automotive paint store. This is also a great time to redo the bunks. I usually replace the winch strap and the jack along with the wiring and upgrade to LED lights.

Prior to starting closely inspect the trailer for any need repairs. Those tube frames are bad about rusting. This can usually be detected by looking at the bottom of the frame near the drain holes. Take a hammer and chisel and lightly tap on the bottom of the frame looking for soft spots. If it is rusted I would not waste the time and money with the exterior.

Im a contractor and have used AL'S LINER look them up. They sell a kit and a cheap spray gun. Great !!

I like the als liner. That seems like any easy application. I checked the trailer out pretty thoroughly today. Most areas are pretty good shape but places like the fender or where the boards are bolted need to be sanded and repainted. Depending if I can get paint to match I might just touch those places up instead of repainting the whole trailer. Any ideas where I can get paint that will hold up and it to match?

I'm spraying mine with bed liner all the new skeeters have a bed liner material on the new ones
