I am going on a devil's river trip in march. I plan to fall in at least once. I want to dry quickly, but not break the bank with a bunch of yuppie future clothes. Currently, these are all I have.

Any recommendations?

Look into getting some quick dry convertible pants where you can easily zip off the lower leg to convert to shorts. I like the ones with the built in mesh underwear.

I have had good luck with all the "Magellan" branded gear at Academy. I have some Columbia stuff I got on clearance and can't tell any real difference between it and the Magellan. I have had a few more buttons fall off the Magellan, but I feel it dries and wicks about the same.

Otherwise, check out the columbia outlet stores.

I wouldn't wear or even take anything that is cotton.

Colombia fishing pants have worked for me and they have zip off legs. They are nylon and dry fairly quick.

1) Check out Academy's BCG polyester underwear, tights, tops, shorts and pants.
2) Since you have time, check eBay for used name brand polyester shirts and pants. I like Simms & Under Armour. Only buy Columbia brand stuff if they provide exact measurements of the item as they make a lot of stuff that just doesn't match the tag size.
3) Read every label and don't wear anything with cotton on the river. Cotton jeans and a cotton shirt is fine in a dry bag to be worn in the evening around a camp fire.

Cotton is the worst thing to wear on the water.
Polyester is the worst thing to wear next to a fire.

That's great info. Liquid poly on skin seems painful cry

I have both the Magellen and Columbia QD zip off pants. I bought a pair of each at Academy. After trying them both our I decided I liked the Columbia more but they were more expensive. I got tired of driving from Academy to Academy trying to find a particular size so I ended up buying more from Amazon.com. Amazon had more sizes so I could find a better fit, they had more in stock and they were a better price.

YMMV, but I have found that on a few pairs of my Magellan pants the built-in mesh underwear can chafe uncomfortably. I cut it out and wear the polyester boxer briefs under them. Much more comfortable.

I prefer wearing Gander Mountain's Guide Series Men's Trailhead Convertible Pants because for me they are more comfortable.

What about closed toe shoes? I have Chacos, but everything says to wear closed toe shoes. I want to have all of my skin on my feet when I leave. I am afraid to wear old athletic shoes, bc my feet will stay wet in those. Any suggestions?

Would it work to look into buying "water shoes"? Many of those are have a closed toe area but lots of mesh panels to drain water and allow drying. Those products don't retain water like an old sneaker would, but the good ones still have a decent support sole.
