I don't have a nav chip... i am using the standard map software that came with my Gen 2 HDS8
I use navionics on my iPad or iPhone in the boat and use their webapp on my laptop when planning at home...
my question is this... is the info or data if you will the same on the chip as the app and web app?
or will i get more info on my map screen such as more contour lines more info like creeks or roadbeds or anything...
a local small lake that i fish doesn't show much data on the apps so until i start fishing bigger more popular lakes wonder if its worth it thats all

Shows the same to speak of. Sometimes the maps are updated and sometimes those updates actually lose info. I bought a new card last year, updated it and lost 20' of shallow water on the lake I fish.

I have not used the mobile app much, so I can't swear as to what data level they have there. For at home planning, I have used the web-app on a laptop. For that, Navionics claims "what you see is what you would get on the chip". Their FAQ directs customers debating the purchase/value to look at their online maps to be properly informed on what to expect. Go to:

http://www.navionics.com/en/hotmaps-platinum-1#coverage

for a list of lakes covered. That list also indicates which ones have 1-foot contours (HD). Everything I see there matches the 2D view on my HotMaps Platinum chips. The 3D and satellite overlay are marginal features of the chip not available online. You are correct that you will get little data for small secondary lakes not on that list. HOWEVER, if you fish there a lot, you can build up your own private database of sonar scans over time with "SonarChart" - a feature of the Navionics Platinum HotMaps product (not available with Premium).

The USA South chip covers about any destination lake I may visit. I like that I will have data for lakes where I won't have local knowledge and could run into trouble fast - even if I don't go there with any frequency. You could think of it as a lower-unit insurance policy for visits to unfamiliar waters!

Navionics adds about 2000 updates to their data base per day. Those updates are added to the Navionics website's WEB APP for both the Nautical Charts and Sonar Charts. They are also added to the Mobile Apps when those are updated.

Additionally when you update a map card, all those updates are added to your card.

All versions of Navionics will have the exact same map data if updated the same day.

If you want to see current maps, look at the WEB APP. If you what that data, update your mapping.

All three Navionics+ versions can have the Sonar Charts map layer when updated and that layer included with the download.
Original Navionics+ 2GB with no maps--you choose what locations to download to the card with no regional restrictions.
Current Navionics+ Preloaded 16GB with all the Nautical Charts for the US and Canada.
Navionics Update which is 2GB and takes an owned map card from most any source to activate it so it becomes the 2GB version of Navionics+ with no maps

One more thing about the mobile app. It has more adjustability than the map cards in sonar/GPS units.

It has Water Level Offset--to redraw the whole lake when the level is higher or lower than normal pool or the level it was during the map survey.

It has shallow area highlighting out to the selected depth--red dots

It has depth shading out to the selected depth--blue shading

It has a fishing mode/fishing range that you select the depth range you want to concentrate your efforts on--white highlighting.

Community Edits and selectable Satellite Overlay or Terrain Overlay

I'm having some issues figuring my navionics mapping out. I was fishing this weekend and noticed from the sonar that I had fished thru a ditch that wasn't shown on my chart with the fish and chips mode enabled. When I turned off fish and chips, it appeared. I thought fish and chips was supposed to be more detailed? Any advise would be appreciated.
