The lake near where I live is getting stocked with trout. What baits and lures are good for trout?

I went today but didn't even get a bite.

I used a #3 Mepps.

Try a #0 or a #1 on the Mepps. I have the best luck with either the silver or gold Aglias. You might also try a small crank bait, natural colors.

I use a 4lb test line with a size 10 mosquito hook. Some Berkley powerbait (it foats) and a small egg sinker to keep it near the bottom and you will be good to go. Light line a super small hook is a must. Most people use to heavy line and hooks that are to large.

Small hook on leader, 1/4 weight any style, trout power worm w/ 4pd line on very light gear tight lined or slow reel

You can always bottom fish with a redworm. Velveta Cheese is also supposed to be a good bait.

Im assuming you mean from the bank...

I grew up fishing trout lakes in northern california.
... I would start with carolina rigged power bait. Small hook. If you can find a pattern, throw lures like mepps or rooster tails. If they are feeding shallow, nightcrawlers under a float can be deadly.

If you can get ON the water, Troll a night crawler behind a flasher rig.

^this .

Try trimming the feathers on your Rooster tails close to the hook . Hard to set the hook when they're chewing on the tail . Don't quit experimenting , though . I caught a 9" Rainbow on a catfish rig baited with shrimp .

I grew up in PA -

For stocked lake trout I agree with Grainraiser - use very small hooks and Berkley Powerbait in chartreuse or hatchery brown. Experiment with the presentation - near the bottom or just off it.
Also, a Trout Magnet in pink or chartreuse works well for hatchery trout.

If no action on that try:
1/8 to 1/32 Mepps and Panther Martins
Midge and wooly bugger flys - use a tippet (light weight leader for a natural presentation)

Good luck - trout fishing can be very frustrating!

I used to live in Colorado. Always did best fishing of the bank with a small (1/8thoz or less) panther martin. Usually yellow or black. Like the gold blades for stained water silver for clearish water. The problem with fishing of the bank was always casting far enough. I sued to get a clear bobber and tie about a 4ft. leader with some 2 or 4 lb. line to the lure just to be able to cast far enough. The perch colored rapala f-5 size lures always worked well too. If all else fails, any salmon egg or powerbait dough or even a regular old worm fished off the bottom works. Use a lindy rig for better results. Hope that helps.

This may help; it's the fishing tips link we mentioned in our iFishRadio Q&A Session beta test this evening.

I do the trout fishing in the Frisco Common Ponds, have for the last few years. Tried several different things, best thing I have found is straight up Corn, that is right just Corn. Pick up a can at the store, buy the name brand so you get good size pieces. Smaller hook with a couple of small round weights about a foot up the line so the corn will float up a little. I was told they feed the trout corn at the fish farms so it makes sense. Keep the line a little tight and see what happens....

When I am not fishing I am doing Home Inspections! Or is it supposed to be the other way around??? www.kcquality.com

Have been doing well this year with corn or Berkly trout bait that floats. I place 1 small clip on weight about a foot up the line (4lb). Best results have come while slow reeling to keep the line tight.
