Looks like the Corp has their hands full for the dam called "Trouble".
Are Hickory, Westlake, and Big Sandy still closed to flooding?

Am I seeing things or did the article say the dam was past it's life expectancy? If that is the case shouldn't they be required to do major overhauls? Its not like a patch for a pothole that should last 2 years, its a flippin dam that could fail and be catastrophic.

Holy cow, I read that if it were to give way. Downtown Dallas would be under 50' foot of water.
That sounds like more than 500k would die, a decision is going to be made within 6-mons of the time that article came out.. 50-500 million to repair depending on the method used to fix it..

It's been moved to the top of the list as most dangerous dam in America... eeks

We just spent the last 4 weeks cutting and caulking the spillway expansion joints for the corp. The dam road was closed so we had to 4x4 in/out everyday. Had no clue that was the reason. Funny to think we were concerned about the water going over the spillway last week.

Side note: Amazing how many deer/trophy bucks are below the dam. We saw good bucks every day.

It doesn't paint a good picture for Corp PR when they are quoted as saying "we don’t want to unduly panic the public, so we sugarcoat the message a bit.”

Takes on a new meaning to draining that sewer.

Interesting read. It's funny that they mentioned the South Fork Dam in Johnstown, Pa. I grew up in Johnstown and of course not there in 1889 for that one or the one in 1936. I was part of the 1977 flood that devastated the city once again. Newly married we lost everything including several family members and friends that we graduated with. Hence the nickname for the city as "The Flood City". As bad as that was I could not imagine the devastation that a breach at Lewisville would create.

Just read this article. Wonder if Dallas is gonna pony up some cash now. Probably not. If Lewisville pays for it, they should tear up any contracts with Dallas and renegotiate a better deal that allows them to quit draining it so fast.
