Looking at buying a Lew's Tournament MB 8.3:1 reel and just curious if there any advantages, disadvantages over their 7.5 reel for pitching jigs, t-rigs etc. I have a 7.3:1 and a 7.1:1 I'm using for plastics and jigs now and they seem to work fine...just adding another to the arsenal.
Thanks

Steve

You probably use the rod to hop or jig the bait more than the reel so I doubt it will affect that at all but where the faster retrieve pays off is that dead/slack water away from cover and back to the boat. It will help you get the bait back in and make another cast. Also helps when taking up slack on a hookset. All in all I truly feel like the 8.1's I use on bottom techniques fit me better and the way I choose to fish.

Realistically you will not see a huge difference from 7.1 to 7.3 if IPT is close. Also IPT is the biggest factor as well.
