Oldhams are awesome jigs. They have one of the best football jigs. Hack attacks are one of the best flipping jigs. Personally I only buy brand names in a pinch. There are some guys that build way better jigs than you can get off the shelf. Just do an Internet search and you will see a lot of different head styles. That's the most important part to me as it keeps my hang ups to a minimum.

Pitch, free fall, check it, shake it, hop it twice then swim it back and repeat. In my experience 90% of the time if you get bit its on the initial fall.
